Buckeyes Beat Longhorns 24-7

Austin, TX (WGR 550) - In the first regular season matchup of No. 1 vs. No. 2 in a decade, the Ohio State Buckeyes proved they were the best team in the nation with a dominating 24-7 victory of the Texas Longhorns.
Buckeye quarterback Troy Smith lead OSU with 269 yards passing and two touchdowns. One to Anthony Gonzalez and the other to Ted Ginn Jr. Gonzalez lead the Bucks in receiving with eight receptions for 142 yards, both career highs. Ginn pulled in five passes for 97 yards. Ohio State running back Antonio Pittman finished with 74 yards and the final touchdown of the game that put the game out of reach.
With nine new starters the Buckeye defense looked to play on a championship level, holding Texas to a single touchdown, when the Longhorns had scored at least 40 points in 12 consecutive games.
Longhorns’ new starting quarterback Colt McCoy threw for 154 yards with an interception and a touchdown.
The last time the top two teams met in the regular season was when No. 2 Florida State beat No. 1 Florida, but the Gators won the rematch in the Sugar Bowl to win the national championship.
