It was his 40th tournament title as a pro. he was playing Frenchman Richard Gasquet who is ranked 51st in the world, and final tally was 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
So it was touchy and surprising for the first set -and then, federer played like federer.
There is now a Master's tournament in Cincinnati before the US Open and if Federer plays this and gets to the final, it will be his 18th final in a row. only other man to do that? Ivan lendl in 1983.

Lendl would be among the greats of the game if he had had a personality...but he gets forgotten...Federer doesn't seem to have a lot of rivals except for Nadal...

Yeah, this was a line that cracked me upin the write-up about federer's win yesterday:

It goes on to say that Federer is 62-4 if you include Nadal. Still, not so bad.
