sharapova, Mauresmo out of French Open

seems no surprise for Mauresmo (ishe's failed to make the quarters at Roland garros 12 times now) but must be disappointing for her as it is in front of her home crowd. Final score: 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-2.
And maria lost to Dinara Safina, who seems to be on the rise, final score 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. She cited her ankle, and her rustiness because of the injury, but I hate excuses - just say I didn't play as well as i could have - which she probably also said.
Venus is the lone American still in play, as Blake also lost.

Anyone else starting to think Sharapova might've been a one Grand Slam win wonder?

Hey now, cut the blonde starlet a break...she has a million dollar image to protect...and she is the "Russian girl next door"...so of course she is going to say injury...and we are all going to say..."ahhh, poor thing!"

I want to give her more time. I think there is great potential.

Lefty, you took the words out of my mouth. That screaching really annoys me after a while too.

there is room available for you all in the Martina Hingis bandwagon...and heck, Maria is still a kid...give her a few years...its not a game for 16 yearold pony tail wearing baseliners...

PS Yes ,I know, Hingis bit the dust today...she will come back...

Hingis lost to a mighty opponent, though - Clijsters is tough to beat at Roland Garros.
And yes i hate the screeching/moaning some players do, too, on every single shot - shut up already - drives me crazy.

Re: sharapova, Mauresmo out of French Open

Oh my God. I tried watching part of the Venus Williams match but the screaming and grunting was the most annoying thing I have ever heard in my life! Tennis in the United States is in a sorry state, and I have the feeling nobody but a handful of people really care anymore. To watch a woman's match, you absolutely need to use the mute button. I know Federer and Nadal are an item now on the men's side, and Federer is one of the best class acts in sports. But the rest of tennis is a jumble of unpronounceable names and nameless faces. Rest in peace tennis.
