ROME (AP) -- Martina Hingis beat 16th-seeded Dinara Safina 6-2, 7-5 Sunday for her first title since coming out of retirement. Hingis spent nearly three years out of the game with foot and ankle injuries, but returned in January. This was the 41st title of her career, but first since winning in Tokyo more than four years ago.




Okay, so the comeback by the Swiss Miss is in good hands...she won a title again...

Shaking off three years worth of rust in 4-5 months is mighty impressive. I wouldn't be surprised if she has at least a few more victories in her before she hangs them up again.

I really think that if she has her act together (Which she appears to have...she even when to school for a while during the break) she will be fine.

She was always pretty down on herself - I think it was mostly confidence issues. She fixed her game and has come back alot more confident. She also waited out the williams sisters.

I think her interest in the game had wandered off...she was into riding her horses, dating, school etc...now she seems to want it again...

Alas, no...though I have met a few tennis starlets of mid 80's vintage...among them Kathleen Horvath and Andrea Temesvari...Horvath was really nice...Temesvari was stuck on herself, but very photogenic...I met the Maleeva sisters...and a few others...oh and Lisa Bonder who went to file a big palimony suite with some billionaire guy...

Wrote an article on Hingis...dug around for info on her...she was taking college classes by mail in her homeland during her break.
