Who Wants to Fire Phil Fulmer?

Matt Hayes of the Sporting News sure sounds like he want to fire Phil Fulmer.

He blows thru his own version of why Fulmer's end is near. Basically, Hayes says Fulmer's lost control of the football team over the past couple years and hasn't been able to get them back in line. He points to nothing other than the off field incidents as proof of the lack of control over the Vols.

Quote:
If it were just the first loss to Vanderbilt in 23 years or the first losing season in 17 years or yet another loss to Steve Spurrier, last year's 5-6 finish would be a hiccup for a guy who has done too much to be pushed out the door for one bad season. But for the first time in the history of coaching (sarcasm, everyone), it's not all about wins and losses.

It's about the personality of a team, a program and its leader. Tennessee's problems aren't about X's and O's -- although the rehiring of assistant David Cutcliffe will energize the offense -- they're about the Jimmys and Joes and their inability to stay off the police blotter.
Geeze, we know that we sucked last year. We know we got beat by Spurrier and Vandy. We know we had a losing record. We know we didn't goto a bowl game. we know, we know, we know!

Hayes thinks that the changes that have been made in the coaching staff do nothing other than appease UT administration, boosters and "message board nuts" (that would be us, thank you very much).

While I'm in agreement that the arrest record needs to go down (duh), I'm not of the opinion that Fulmer has a band of uncontrollable heathens at Neyland.

We're not the 1st major college football program who's had trouble. And when you string a few underperforming years together, the media nuts try to tell us message board nuts that the sky is falling.

Sorry, I'm gonna reserve my opinion until about October until I decide if the sky really is falling... or if it's just some nut.

Nah I think it was best for the players to have to go through a losing season. Get there heads straight, show just because they play for UT that it takes alot to be top team in the SEC.

Each year that NC luster wears down and I hope some of the players last year got hungry after holding there head in shame.

Besides we got the DC and hired the OC to take us back to the top.

Fulmer, Chavis, Cutliff, How many teams would love to have that as a coaching tandem.
I think alot of the people calling for Fulmers head are fairweather fans that realy don't understand what it took to get UT where they was at and how hard it is to continue at that level.

KEEP FULMER, thats my vote.

Re: Who Wants to Fire Phil Fulmer?

how is it that we at Tennessee can tolerate this level of preparation. We have a more talented team, an the mistakes of this game are glaring that Phil cannot prepare this team to play no matter how talented they are! This sucks as long term fan. We are much better than this and on a national level, this does not bod well for our storied franchise.
