UT vs. CAL

It's time for me to poach over on another board. Who's going to win the season opener? Y'all can probably guess my pick. Will someone defend the Vols honor?

Re: UT vs. CAL

Let's bring it on California boy!

There is no doubt that you guys are better than I'd want for this year's opener. What with the Vols coming off their 1st losing season in years and the pain of a loss to vandy still ringing in our ears. I honestly wish we were playing some pansy so that we could get an easy win under our belt.

But I'll settle for the hard fought win against a top-10 team

I think you're gonna be surprised at how your high power defense fares against the Vols defense. Whether you guys go with Longshore, Ayoob, or Levy at quarterback, I can guarantee that Chief (Defensive Coordinator Coach Chavis) is gonna be making them sorry they flew into the mountains of East Tennesee.

Our D line and linebackers are the strength of the entire team so don't count on a high scoring game.

Vols QB Eric Ainge has his problems last year but he didn't have the man who groomed both starters in NFL's Sept 10 primetime Colts-Giants matchup. Coach Cut is back and he will make a difference!

In the end, your Bears will be in a state of shock and awe as a record crowd of 109,101 (yep, 109 thousand Vol Fans) will see the Jumbotron proudly displaying the final score:

Vols 17 Cal Bears 13

Smokey IX tells me to throw you guys a bone so....
Hopefully, you guys will recover from the loss and go on to win the PAC 10 title.

So tell me where I'm worng

Talking Re: UT vs. CAL

It sounds like Ross has a handle on this game for the most part. I’m not as confident in our newly stocked defensive front as he is but I agree that Chief will keep Cal in check.
IMO, (Cough) pride alone, will be all the incentive Tennessee needs to overcome the Bears. The Vols are anxious to show the world that last year was a fluke. I expect the Volunteers, players and fans alike, to be inspired like no other time in recent history. That alone will be enough to overcome California.
It’s not all UT has to offer however. Regardless of the QB Cal uses, plan on BIG TIME mistakes! Tennessee’s frenzied front will be fast and will help the experienced DBs with causing turnovers. I predict at least 3 from Cal, resulting in a minimum of 10 points.
Look for the Vols to control the clock successfully in this game. Coach Fulmer & Co. have been working hard on fundamentals. A focused group will be able to sustain drives by minimizing mistakes and actually converting third downs! UT’s ground game will be a well-oiled machine, devouring clock and yards, while it punishes Cal’s over-rated D. The Volunteer ground game may start slow, scoring only once in the first half, but count on at least two more touchdowns in the second.
Factor in now, an improved passing attack, via ‘Coach Cut wants a raise’, that will stretch Cal’s Defense like Tennessee’s continually growing lead. Ainge will be airing the ball down field once Cal has to stick 8 & 9 in the box to TRY to stop Arian from scoring again and again. I predict that Ainge will throw for two long touchdowns. (Over 20 yards)
Incase you’re wondering about Cal’s offense, they’ll score some points. They’ll score three in the first half, if they’re lucky. They’ll get to score again in the forth while UT provides some useful experience for the third-teamers.

Yep Fella’s, it’s just too obvious. Davy Crockett was killing bears at the age of 3, didn’t y’know?

Volunteers 34
Bears 10

Re: UT vs. CAL

Ok Candlejack im not evan gonna spair you im not as nice as the other Vols fans on this forum, and im not gonna suger coat it for i think that you guys are gonna think that hey they just came off there 1st losing season since i think '92 and you guys think your jus gonna walk all over us nope not evan gonna happen. Your gonna under estimate us and we are just gonna come out of no where. We did lose a lot of our key starters from last year and yes i think that we will have a tough time stopin the run but i think as the game goes on i think that D-line will become stingy with giving up yards on the ground and i dont think it will take them long which then forces Cal to go to the air game which i dont think is a strong point for Cal cause all i hear is Cal's running attack and thats there bread and butter which then leads me to my perdiction

VOLS 28 CAL 10

Re: UT vs. CAL

Wow! One against six, huh? OK, hear goes nothing... Cal has a Heisman hopeful in Marshawn Lynch. He ran for 1246 yds in only 10 games and sharing the running duties. I'm picking Levy to start at QB this year, with Ayoob as #2. Most of our offensive line is still intact, so protection and hole opening shoudn't be a problem. Our linebacking corp has experience. Our secondary has remained untouched it looks like.

I think that it will be a close game. I'm going to say 27-24 Cal.

Wink Re: UT vs. CAL

It’s practically here! FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!
I’m growing more and more excited by the minute. Cal’s fan seems to be enthusiastic too! Just 3 points CJ? C’mon, you can do better than that!
Welcome Epic. Now Vols by 14, that sounds like a prediction!

IT'S FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tennessee will have a fairly easy time with Cal. I'm hoping that they will even run up the score on them. Tennessee by 17 points.

Welcome to GoTeamsGo, epic37311 & Tennessee2IDie2210

Wish I had your confidence but I'm thinking a lower score for this 1st game. You guys gonna make it to the game? We've had a hard time getting to Neyland for the past few years. Probably only get to 1-2 games this year.

Go Vols Go!

Glad to be here Ross. This is a really good board you guys have here. I hope I can add to the very good quality of post here and make some freinds.

I think UT is hungry and alot of eyes will be on them to do well because of last season. So they will need to run the score up on a quality team and Cal will have to be the one to suffer .

I hope to make a game. I am getting married at the end of Sept. so maybe a month or so after that I will be able to. I would really like to go to the LSU game.

Re: UT vs. CAL

CJ this is RJ from Nor Cal I'm over the hill from you in Concord Ca saying that the Vols will beat your Bears by the score of 27 - 21. Fans in Tenn this is your West Coast Vol Fan RJ CJ your Bears will score 21 from the ground game but it won't be enough as our team in ORANGE will score from the ground and from the air. Our kicking team will pin you down deep in your end of the field all day long so you will get your running yards but not enough in the humiddy of down south. Remember that heat wave we had a few weeks ago a hundred degrees a day for over a week. That will be feel like a cool winter's day in the muggy south. It will wear down those Nor Cal boys. Watch out for those Vol wide outs running past your D#### in the second half and your big D#### will slow down also in the second half and UT's running game will come on strong and Foster will be running over them for 125 yards at least this game. UT fans I'll be able to read in my local paper how The Bears lost on Sunday. Can't wait till 07 when I'll get to see the Vol's win here in No Cal and then go down in 08 and watch the Vols beat the Baby Blue bears in ucla Rose bowl. Thank You coach for scheduling those games GO VOLS

Re: UT vs. CAL

Welcome to GoTeamsGo, RJ (that's my initials, too)

Glad to have another Vol fan on board.

I read that the Bears are piping in noise and they're watering down their field to simulate some humidity. Unfortunately, it looks like Saturday will be perfect fall football weather. High of 81 & low humidity. Fans will enjoy that but no weather advatage for the Vols in this one.
