Terp fan coming down for UT/UF game, need advice

Hey guys,

I posted this over at Voltalk, but figured I give it a shot here as well.

We have about a 6 man crew that have rented an RV and are undertaking a tailgate tour of sorts. We're headed out from suburban Maryland to Morgantown to catch the Terp and the Mountaineers Thursday night, 09/14, then headed on down to Knoxville that Friday morning for to hang out in Knoxville for 2 days and catch the UF/UT game.

Anyway, on gameday, I realize you cant park an RV on campus unless you're a donor. The UT site said:

"RV's will find parking at the Civic Coliseum and at the Blackstock Street lot located behind the Foundry at the North World's Fair area. The cost is $25 per day, with room for approximately 100 RVs and hookups for 20. Security will be provided at the Coliseum site beginning Friday after 3 p.m. KAT Shuttle service to Neyland Stadium is available."

Is that the way to go? Do those spots fill up quick (or at all?). Should we make sure to snag a spot on Friday?

Also, any advice is welcome on tailgating, if theres anything to look out for as far as open containers, etc.

Appreciate any help you can give us.
Just looking forward to seeing a "real" college FB tailgate (no offense to College Park).

We'll be wearing orange.

Hey, CharlieHorse, welcome to GoTeamsGo! I'm not a Vols fan myself and have never been down to Neyland Stadium for a game, but I know that we have a ton of Tennessee fans who frequent the board. Hang in there a few days and I'm sure they'll be by to offer their thoughts and suggestions!

You will probably want to keep any alcoholic beverages in a cup, they started cracking down on open containers a while ago (and the police will not hesitate to take people to jail). I am not sure if the RV park will fill up quick or not but it being the UT/UF game you probably don't want to risk it.
Have a great time at a great game and I am glad to hear you will be wearing orange.

if your worried about morgantown and drinking dont worry my friend, open beer cans are agaisnt the law here however the cops here are really blind. This is a big tailgaiting town on gameday. you might have some problems, but all the RV's park at the hospital lot which is also used as the parking lot to the stadium i occasionly see rv's of other schools so call and ask about permits. Tho if i remember right there is a 1 keg per car rule.

I'm in the same boat, 6 of us are coming down in nov. for the tenn./lsu game. I recieved the same info as you did in regards to parking now I just want to know where the good partying is at? Should we stay in the rv park for tailgating or should we go to campus? Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Terp fan coming down for UT/UF game, need advice

Although I haven't been to the Coliseum on gameday (nor do I have an RV for that matter), the real tailgating goes on all around the campus and "the Strip" which is Cumberland Avenue that runs adjacent to the campus.

The Civic Coliseum is relatively far from the stadium itself (hence the need for the Shuttle Buses), but I've seen lots of people get back onto the shuttles after the games, so I'm assuming that lots of people do park there.

My advice would be to go ahead and park at the Coliseum, then ride straight over to the stadium for the tailgating on/near the campus. For the Florida game, it should be pretty widespread.

Rcunha, same goes for you for the LSU game, should be a HUGE turnout.

Just so you guys know, you might want to pack your ipods with your favorite fight song of choice, because if you don't, and you don't have formal training like UT fans have at listening to 560 different versions of Rocky Top, you might have the urge to kill yourself.
