| Offense and Defense Hey everybody, as you can see I am new to the forum but I love Tennessee football more than just about anything else in life (except my wife and english lab). I know that UT lost a lot of talent last year and I was wondering if anybody could help educate me on what exactly we are looking at this year on both sides of the ball. Is it going to be real tough or do we can some good players to help fill the gaps? I know that our secondary is looking the best it has in years and our running back core is looking okay as well. Thanks for any information it is appreciated, RET |

| Re: Offense and Defense Hi RET, welcome to GoTeamsGo! You must not bleed orange like I do casue I'd have a hard time listing 2 things I love more than UT football Just kidding (in case my wife & kids read this...) Except for this year, Fulmer's always got the job done on the recruiting front so I expect we'll have some good players to plug any gaps. My hope is that we turn it around this year for several reasons. 1st, they named Ainge as THE starting QB plus we've got Coach Cut to help him. My fingers are crossed that Cutcliff can work some magic on him like he's done on those Manning boys. Not sure if Ainge will ever be in their league but I can hope. The backfield looks good with experienced Sophmore Arian Foster & Senior Cory Anderson. The big question marks on both sides will be the front lines. With only 1 returning starter on the offensive line and 1 returning defensive line starter, we're gonna need help. Fortunately, it looks like we've got a bunch of sophmores & juniors with experience who will try to make their mark this year. I'm hoping for the best this year. If we have another rotten year like 2005, it's gonna be ugly here. Anybody got predictions on possible starters for the O-Line & D Line? Who do you think will be the standout player for the Vols on each side of the ball in 2006?

| Re: Offense and Defense Thanks for the reply. I think that Foster will be the stand out player of the year for the Vols and he will turn a lot of heads across the country as well. If you look at his stats and remember he only played in a few games last year he looks like he will be a star!!! I could not believe how hard he ran the ball. As for Ainge, I think he has star potential as well but has got to get his head in the game. He had a great Freshman year (even when spliting time and the headache that went with it) but his sophmore year he just didn't seem to be focused. I hope that Coach Cut can get him where he needs to be. I think we had a lot of close games last year and they all seemed to go the wrong way (for vol fans anyway). As long as we can win some of the close ones I know we will have a much better year. Football season is getting close RET |

| Re: Offense and Defense Hi Carroll, yep there are some of us Vols fans here. You sound like you're not expecting much from Rocky Top this year. Any bright spots of optimism at all?

| Re: Offense and Defense The addition of David Cutcliffe should prove to be a spark for the offense. Emphasis on SHOULD. As far as the defense, the secondary is now the most experienced part of the defense, although John Chavis always puts together a strong group whether or not they're supposed to be. The WR's are now under the watchful eye and forceful chestbump of Trooper Tayler, who has been throwing bricks... actual bricks, at the receivers to improve their hand/eye/bandage coordination. It will either be real pretty real fast, or real ugly real fast. |
