Fulmer knows Vols can't afford to lose at Georgia

KNOXVILLE — Tennessee wide receiver Josh Briscoe didn't sugarcoat the situation.
"If we play the way we did Saturday, we won't beat many (Southeastern Conference) teams," Briscoe said.
The comment pointed to UT's measly offensive output during its slim 13-9 victory against Northern Illinois at Neyland Stadium. It was another disturbing scoring effort for the Volunteers, in a game that previous UT teams would have had in hand by halftime.
It all added up to some serious stress for fans who know a potentially season-changing showdown is less than a week away.
UT plays at No. 10 Georgia on Saturday, and a magical week of practice will be needed for UT to dig itself out of a cavernous hole.
When asked if this was more of a must-win or a game of pride, UT Coach Phillip Fulmer didn't hesitate.
"It's all of the above," Fulmer said. "It's not business as usual. This is a very important time for us as we fight like heck to stay in the championship mix and hope somebody else gets beat."
Realistically, it doesn't look good for the Volunteers. Despite stellar play by the defense, Fulmer said the offense is still a work in progress and new starting quarterback Nick Stephens needs to improve.
Those flaws can be masked against a team from the Mid-American Conference, but not against a top program like Georgia.

Re: Fulmer knows Vols can't afford to lose at Georgia

Georgia is going to spit in thier eye and kick'em in the groin. They are still pissed at losing to Alabama so they are going to stomp the living daylights out of the Volunteers. Phillip Fulmer may just as well hand in his clipboard and take a vacation it won't make any difference.

I've got to be honest I am a Orange bleedin' diehard VOLS fan,but I would'nt be surprised or dissapointed if the VOLS do'nt win another game this season. Why? You ask, because maybe then the powers that be will get rid of "FATBOY" Phil.

Careful my friend, Stoneys living it up this year, but you are right I think, if Phil whips the Bulldogs this week and plants a Big Orange foot in the Big Red Elep. back side, all will be forgiven. Those are a couple big IF'S though.

Lots of folks feel the way you do, but it would be great to beat them in the middle of one of the best seasons Bama's had in years, while Tenn. is in the funk we are in right now. If you ever wondered what Stoneys nightmare's are, this would be right at the top.
NEWS PAPER HEADLINE---------
VOLS BRING TIDE UNBEATEN STREAK TO AN END..................
This is Stoneys worst fear.

I can think of a few worse than that but nobody needs to know what they are
