KNOXVILLE – Average.
That was the consensus following Tennessee’s final full-contact scrimmage of fall camp in Neyland Stadium. Not great, not terrible, somewhere in the middle.“I really don’t know how to quite take this scrimmage,” UT Coach Phillip Fulmer said. “I don’t think we were nearly at our best. The focus wasn’t there 100 percent. There were some good things on both sides of the ball, but it wasn’t what we wanted.”
The coaching staff did not seem overly concerned though, even with the season opener at UCLA only 10 days away. There were just enough positives to keep the Volunteers from zeroing in on the negatives.
One bright spot on offense came from running back Montario Hardesty, who rushed four times for 79 yards. Three of the junior’s runs went for more than 20 yards, including an impressive scamper that went for 31.
