TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — On an abnormally warm day in a weather-weird year, one bit of normalcy emerged: The Tide still can roll.
Alabama unloaded a second-half pounding on UT, beating the Vols in almost every single way — and on almost every single play — en route to a 41-17 drumming in front of 92,138 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The Third Saturday in October was the third double-digit loss for UT (4-3, 2-2 SEC) this season, while the Tide (6-2, 4-1) still can reach the Southeastern Conference championship game if it wins out.
"We've had our share of good fortune against them over a long period of time and today wasn't our day," UT Coach Phillip Fulmer said. "We got it handed to us. Big-time handed to us."
The big-time rivalry between the SEC's two most storied programs looked like a homecoming game in the second half. Alabama pitched a shutout during the final 30 minutes, rolled up 510 yards of offense for the game, and ran almost 30 more plays than UT.
The Vols? They scored a season-low 17 points, were flagged for a season-high 11 penalties, and have had their two biggest rivals — Florida and Alabama — score exactly 100 points on them this season.
