Not Just Sanders

Unfortunately, for the past 6 years we look more like a team from Nashville than the Big Orange from K-Town. We are 6-11 against Top 10 teams since 1999. Fulmer’s record against Spurrier, Richt, Tuberville, Saban, and Urban Meyer is a mere 6 wins and 16 losses. Hello, there is a problem here. Do you clap your hands Phillip when you reflect on your record against other SEC coaches?

I remember what happened when I dropped a pass that hit me in the hands on third and long that would have resulted in a first down. My coach pulled me out of the game, chewed my butt like you cannot believe, made the QB rifle bullets at my head on the side line until I got the message then all the next week I ran bleachers after practice. The remainder of the season, I never dropped another catchable pass. Why? Because I was afraid I would never see playing time again, I did not want to run the bleachers after practice anymore and I did not desire to have my rear end chewed so fiercely. Bottom line, coach got my attention.

I hate to see lack of discipline. I cannot stand mediocrity when there is opportunity for greatness. What would Steve Spurrier have done if he would have called plays at UT for the past six years? Think about that one for a moment. If you think ole Stevie would have thrown a few visors then you are correct. But, do you think the wins would have been not only more, but also more impressive? If you agree with me then it can only be coaching that causes us to be mediocre.

Spurrier...heres the con. I took him for granted and was somewhat outspoken on his weaknesses the last few years before he left UF. The good Lord has humbled me quite a bit since he left. Steve...I'm sorry dude!

What irked a lot of Gators about him in games we lost:

He lost several big games before paying attention to clock management. He was notorious for having his defense worn out by mid 3rd quarter because he wouldnt call enough running plays to rest them.

He didnt stress run blocking, and a lot of yards gained by Erict Rhett or Fred Taylor, they got on their own. He would force the passing game when it was heavily protected, all those 3 and outs killed the defense. He did not like to recruit. He didnt seem to understand physically wearing his opponent down. Since opponents were not tiring, we ended up letting them back in the game after big leads.

He had little interest in the defense, turning that completely over the def coordinator. The defensive players sometimes felt like second class citizens. In 12 years he never got the undisciplined huge amount of penalties dealt with. We always easily led the league. He was 5-8-1 against our biggest rival FSU and was handled easily in his one game versus Miami.

Sorry.....bout the book.
