Georgia-Tennessee: Fulmer Hopes to "Avoid Losing"

11 letters, four syllables, and two words from UT head coach Phillip Fulmer—that's what scares me most about Saturday's Georgia-Tennessee contest.
Forget the game-planning and the key matchups—as soon as those two words came out of Fulmer's mouth, I knew the Vols were in trouble.
The coach said he hopes to "avoid losing" this Saturday against the Bulldogs.

Re: Georgia-Tennessee: Fulmer Hopes to "Avoid Losing"

Yeah, as staunch a defender of Fulmer's as I have been... "avoid losing?" Dude, what is that? That means one of three things - they're going to come out and play uber-conservative football, they're overconfident and think they should easily beat Georgia, or their coach has suddenly sprouted an Eeyore-esque defeatest attitude. No matter which of those three things it is, it spells trouble for Tennessee.

Tennessee has been in trouble for years. Fulmer hasn't coached a team in 10 years. We were winning on shear talent. Now the talent pool is gone and we are in trouble.

I have been a big defender of ole Phil for a long time, but I really think he needs to get his mo-jo back or something. The last couple of years its like he has lost something. I think Tenn. has talented players, but the coaching is getting worse and worse. We have the second best recruiting class in the country this year according to some folks in the sporting news, so I dont think player talent has droped. So if its not less than stellar players it must be the coaching. Right?

That "Avoid Losing" comment scares me - it is aimed right at my Dawgs. Fatso is trying to get the Dawgs thinking they got this one in the bag.

JRL, I know the Dogs are your team, but this is a must win for us. If we drop this one to Georgia, we are finished as far as the SEC title goes. If we win there is still a ray of hope. Gosh, I hope LSU turns the Gators into gumbo.

Rabid it is a must game for both teams if they want to stay close to SC. I can still see a 2 loss team winning the East but I would feel far better if the Dawgs send your old hound dog howling into the night

Well, I think Tennessee successfully "avoided losing" don't you think?

Re: Georgia-Tennessee: Fulmer Hopes to "Avoid Losing"

I have not seen that intensity from Tenn. since the NC game in 98. My question is "where has it been?" Fulmer supporters think this will shut up the complaining about Fulmer but I think it will increase it. They could play with intensity every game win or lose. I still say if he doesn't win the East fire him.

That's a good point - if the Vols had that in them, why haven't we seen more of it? Excellent, excellent question, Kenvol.

Re: Georgia-Tennessee: Fulmer Hopes to "Avoid Losing"

Isnt it amazing how one SEC power made us look like a playground football team and another cant even compete with us. If that kind of line play has been in our football team, I hope it can be repeated week in and week out. We will see in the next couple of weeks. All of a sudden I am looking forward to our visit to the Bama nation in two weeks.
