Sinking Ship.... It is sad to watch the imploding of a once powerful team. You could tell by his tone and the statement "There is more to life than Tennessee Football" he is being forced to resign. This man has dedicated his adult life to UT and is being used as the scape goat for a losing season. Nobody is going to want his job. I hope you enjoyed your ride at the top. Everyone faces adversity. How you handle it determines who you are. Fulmer called the plays the second half against SC and threw "a freind" under the bus to save his big butt. You can bet that Jimmy Clausen will not be a Vol. Spurrier is even smarter than I thought. He would never leave SC. 8 wins a season and an occasional win over Florida, UGA, and UT gets him a raise every year. Face it. The SEC is the hardest conference in college football to go undefeated and you arrogant UT fans schedule Notre Dame because you thought they were in a fall, turns out they are on the rise and you will be lucky if they do not hang 50 points on you. Losing hurts, but sanders did not throw an interception or fumble into the endzone, or miss the field goal, or play defense. This move does more damage than good.

Randy Saunders is a "scape goat" for a loosing season? Do u at all follow Tennessee football or did u just soak up everything that was said by the announcers sat night by the ESPN2. If you knew anything about Tennessee football you would know that this season is no different then the last 3 (all of which saunders has been on the hot seat for his play calling NOT THE FUMBELS). Mediocre football is unacceptable in Knoxville....this aint cock football loosing is not an option. And when it happens 4 times in a season there is no choice but to make a change.. your right when you say that Saunders doesn’t drop passes or fumble the ball but with the same predictable calls week after week along with conservative play calling... this was no doubt a change was going to occur. Another point would be that we scheduled ND YEARS ago...before the brief decline. Tennessee expects to be able to compete with the best teams in college football... thats why we schedule teams like ND..(if you could what does SC out of conference schedule look like). Loosing to UGA FL and BAMA in the same season WILL NOT happen at Tennessee for years to come... but if it does believe there will be more changes (SC was just the icing on that cake). All the best to luck to Randy and i would love to see him stay on at UT as QB coach because he is a great one.. but if not all the best of luck. As for cocky... get your own ideas instead of feeding us this ESPN crap or find an SC forum.

i am a huge tennessee fan and am very disappointed in this season but i agree with the people who say the losses lies a whole lot deeper than randy sanders. in my opinion the head coach has control of everything including randy sanders play calling. if he doesnt agree you know as well as i do he could and would change the plays or the way sanders was going about things. i would rather fulmer resign and sanders take the position as head coach. letting sanders go is not going to change the vols season. and when fulmer is calling the plays i guarentee you will see the same play calling style. everyone knows what is coming because its been the same strategy for years let one more season happen like this and we will be talking about fulmers resignation

George Bush was elected twice, the war on terrorism began, the new millenium started, Florida lost to Alabama three times, and LSU won the SEC title twice. Also Alabama, though Under NCAA sanctions for the better part of the last decade, has a more recent SEC title than TN. Your program is far from dominant. Mediocre is more like it. |

I love the guy that said the problem with sanders was his "conservative play calling"........ yeah, that's what you need, someone who will let ainge and clausen sling it downfield to recievers who wont catch a thing, or better yet, into the arms of the opposing defenders! You UT fans that are calling for sanders head no NOTHING about football. UT's strength is their defense, no question. So what do you do in the SEC when you have a DOMINANT defensive? You play CONSERVATIVE on offense. Dont make mistakes, just play field position and eventually break a few big plays and win 24-10. Problem is, your recievers are terrible, your QB's make aweful decisions and your offensive line can't block a high school JV team. Sanders did EXACTLY as he was told (by fat phil) and now he takes the blame. There isn't a coach in the country that wouldn't be conservative with those players on offense and that defense. Idiots
