KNOXVILLE — Tennessee defensive end Robert Ayers is known for showing flashes of brilliance on the football field. When it comes to doing it consistently, well, that's another story.
On Saturday, during the Vols' 39-19 victory against Southern Miss, the junior had arguably the best game of his career and is hoping to follow it up at Florida this weekend if he wants his team to open conference play 1-0.

"That's closer to what we'd like to have on a consistent basis," Fulmer said about Ayers' play against Southern Miss. "It's a big plus for us if he's able to be as consistent as we need him to be."
Ayers had three tackles, a sack and two quarterback hurries. In fact, he impressed the coaching staff so much that they moved him to defensive tackle in a handful of plays to pressure Southern Miss' quarterback from up the middle.
