| Vols look to climb back into SEC race KNOXVILLE — The rocky slopes of Rocky Top got a lot steeper in 2005. Now, after what can be best described as a bounce-back season in 2006, the Vols will try to continue the slow, steady climb back to their peak. One year after the Tennessee football team went 5-6, lost to Vanderbilt, failed to make it to a bowl and failed to look anything like a respectful football program, the Vols followed it up with a 9-4 record and showed signs they may be back on the rise.Coaches and players are attempting to continue the upward tick, all the while keeping the memories of 2005 firmly planted in their psyches. | Re: Vols look to climb back into SEC race Our offense look unstoppable, but our defense was missing tackles and not stopping their offense. The series where they got the field goal was the Qb's fault not our defense. He had three wide open wide receivers and he over threw them. We had 3rd an 1 on a couple of times and we went with a screen pass. Phillip Fulmer needs to quit. I'd rather see them run the ball for the first and not make it than watch them lose yards on a screen pass. I guess it just wasn't our night. |

| Re: Vols look to climb back into SEC race Eric Ainge on saturday had to feel like peyton manning did a few years back when he set the Touchdown record. All offense no defense. The fumble was the only mistake Eric made, but you'd fumble too with a helmet in the middle of your back. I love my Vols, but the defense needs to wake up and smell the coffee. The SEC is built on defense. We made a laughing stock of that on Saturday. Even during an ESPN news they made the comment about what does Les Miles think of the Pac-10 now. Well aleast we didn't look as bad as michigan losing to App St. |
