Fulmers donate $1 million to UT

KNOXVILLE — Four days before the big game, Tennessee Coach Phillip Fulmer cut a big check.
Fulmer and his wife, Vicky, donated $1 million to the university on Tuesday and it is being called one of the largest gifts ever given to the university by a coach and his family in the school's history.

"Vicky and I have been trying to find a way to demonstrate our affinity for the university for several years," said Fulmer, whose team travels to Cal this week for Saturday's season opener.

"We hope this gift will allow the university to continue to excel in both (academics and athletics)."

The gift is to be split equally between academics and athletics and will be used to support scholarships, athletics facilities and programming.

Unbelievable, isn't it? Joe Pa. does this kind of stuff and he's a legend who cares about the school. Fulmer does it and it's a "bribe" and he's "buying job security". Me thinks some SEC fans need to stop looking for ulterior motives in every little action, and stop looking gift horses in the mouth!

Re: Fulmers donate $1 million to UT

The only thing bad about Fulmer I'll ever say is he is a sorry coach. As a person he is top notch.

Re: Fulmers donate $1 million to UT

He should give back his pay for the whole year. Since he hasn't coached any game (I'm sorry he did coach the Georgia game.) He really hasn't coached in years.

Word around here is Da Chin is headed to talk to your program. If he lands there it will be a war Pittsburg was only a taste of competition.

No prob. So what would you think of Cowher? He's definitely a firey, passionate coach. That might be good for UT.

Re: Fulmers donate $1 million to UT

I would take almost anyone at this point. I do believe that Cower would be good. I would not want Cutcliff though. We need someone to bring us out of the dark ages with some imagination.
