Erik Ainge found a new best friend this summer.Whenever the Tennessee quarterback felt like throwing the ball around, Ainge would call his new buddy. And in classic
Leave it to Beaver fashion, Ainge would ask if he wanted to come out and play.Rogers, always ready.
"He'd come quick," Ainge said.
"Since the summer, Erik and I have been working two or three days a week," said Rogers, a former standout at David Lipscomb High School. "We came out to fall camp and threw every day. We're getting our timing down pretty well."
The timing and trust have been evident. During the Vols' second scrimmage of fall camp last Saturday, Rogers led all receivers with four catches for 56 yards. He's worked with the first team throughout, will start in the Vols' opener at Cal in eight days, and has received the "No. 1 receiver" tag from the coaching staff.
High praise for someone for whom most fans had low expectations.
