Freshman cornerback Eric Berry is catching the eye of the Tennessee coaching staff.

With sophomore Marsalous Johnson sidelined for a couple of days with a shoulder injury, Berry was able to get reps in with the first-team defense on Tuesday. "There's good competition that he's created back there," Coach Phillip Fulmer said. "He's done very well."

Rivals.com calls him the SEC's Impact Newcomer: "Freshman cornerback Eric Berry, rated a five-star prospect by Rivals.com, is already slated to start in the Tennessee secondary. The Vols lost both starting cornerbacks from a year ago. Tennessee will face an impressive list of receivers that includes DeSean Jackson of California, Percy Harvin of Florida and Earl Bennett of Vanderbilt, so they will desperately need solid play on the corner."

He'll sure be tested early and often, I'll tell you that!
