Four months after leading his team to the Sweet 16, Tennessee men's basketball Coach Bruce Pearl is getting a sweet new deal.
Pearl agreed in principle on Wednesday to a contract extension and raise, university officials said.
The new deal extends through the 2012-13 season. Pearl's base salary increases from $300,000 last season to $325,000 this season. Combine that with his television and radio deal ($400,000), adidas sponsorship ($375,000) and endorsements ($200,000), and Pearl will make $1.3 million this season. His old contract called for him to be paid $1.2 million this year.
"I am grateful to President (Dr. John) Petersen, the Board of Trustees, Athletic Director Mike Hamilton, my staff and, of course, our players," Pearl said. "I appreciate the Tennessee fans everywhere for the support they have shown our team."
