Vols Katie Flaute Academic All-America

ACADEMIC HONORS: Tennessee senior Katie Flaute has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team. A first-time recipient of that national honor, the Lady Vol harrier was a second-team selection with her 3.92 grade point average in exercise science.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, Flaute last month made the ESPN The Magazine All-District IV squad for the third straight season after earning second-team honors as a redshirt freshman. Nominees must have sophomore academic standing or above, a year of residency at the school and possess at least a 3.20 GPA.
In addition to her ESPN The Magazine accomplishments, Flaute is a five-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member. Athletically, she is a three-time All-SEC cross country selection, a three-time All-South Region honoree on the trails and a four-time NCAA Cross Country Championships qualifier.
One of only three Lady Vols in program history to accomplish that last feat, she helped Tennessee win four NCAA South Region titles and three SEC Championships in cross country during her stay in Knoxville. During her track & field career, Flaute was a six-time SEC scorer on the oval, covering 3000 through 10,000 meters. She helped the team win the 2005 and 2007 SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships. UT’s previous academic All-Americans in track & field have included Linda Portasik (1982), Patty Wiegand (1989), Leslie Henley (199 and Christina Billings (2003

That's what you really want to see, Academic All-American...On a side note, whatever happened to the Pan AM Games...they were once a big deal.

What happened to them? Billiards, competitive eating and Texas Hold 'Em happened.

Seems like nobody cares about Olympic style sports anymore, yet ESPN finds plenty of time to broadcast the above activities.

True...though it used to be cool...I remember the 1975 games...the uniforms had a stripe down the side with stars...very Patriotic looking ...shorts and tank tops were the order of the day....instead of those freaking singlets they wear now a days.
