| It’s been nine years since Tennessee last won the Southeastern Conference football championship, and the fans on Rocky Top are becoming restless... Head coach Phillip Fulmer righted the Volunteers’ ship last fall after a dismal 2005 season... Fulmer appears to have the Vols marching in the right direction again, but most college football observers don’t believe UT will capture that elusive championship banner this fall. | KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee began its 50-day countdown Friday to the 2007 football season opener. The Vols’ Sept. 1 visit to California -- likely the day’s only matchup of nationally-ranked opponents -- kicks off another sparkling slate of games that includes seven home contests and visits from Georgia, South Carolina and Arkansas. Georgia and South Carolina have joined Tennessee and Florida as preseason picks to win the SEC’s wide open Eastern Division, while Arkansas is coming off a Western Division title last year and returns Heisman Trophy hopeful Darren McFadden. The Vols also host Conference USA power Southern Mississippi in the Sept. 8 home opener, set for 7 p.m. at Neyland Stadium. 7/14/2007 - Vols Within 50 Days Of 2007 Football Kickoff - Sports - Chattanoogan.com Last edited by Lefty Noob : 07-15-2007 at 10:04 AM. |

| Re: Vols 2007 football preview Even after a productive spring in which Tennessee met some of his goals, head coach Phillip Fulmer felt his team wasn't where it needed to be at the end of the 15-practice window. FOX Sports on MSN - COLLEGE FOOTBALL - Tennessee Volunteers Team Report |

| Re: Vols 2007 football preview 2007 OUTLOOK: Tennessee made some progress a 5-6 season in 2005 by finishing 9-4 last season, but it's difficult to get past the way the Vols lost close games against Florida, LSU, Arkansas and Penn State. Coach Phillip Fulmer's answer is to be more physical and build better offensive and defensive lines as the Vols prepare for a schedule that includes two of its first three games on the road at Cal and Florida.
