KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee baseball team tied the all-time school record for hits in a game by pounding out 28 during a 24-6 victory over Tennessee Temple Tuesday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Volunteers received hits from 11 different players, while 12 players drove in at least one run. Five UT pitchers combined to retire the last 23 Crusaders batters as Tennessee improved to 28-20 on the year with its fourth win in its last five games.
By the fifth inning, all of UT's starters had at least one hit, one RBI and one run scored as Tennessee was well on its way to its 15th consecutive Tuesday win, dating to the 2005 season. Sophomore second baseman Tony Delmonico went 5-for-5 with a school-record-tying five runs and three RBIs. His career day also included his first career pitching appearance, as he tossed a perfect ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts. Redshirt freshman catcher Scott Dean made his career debut for UT, catching for Delmonico in the ninth.
