Orange and White Game

Tennessee wraps up its 2007 spring practice Saturday with the annual EdAmerica Orange and White Game, slated for a 2 p.m. Eastern time kickoff at Neyland Stadium.

This year, fans voting on the UTsports.com Web site are helping select the game's starting lineups and first offensive play. More than 1,500 votes have been recorded and the results will be determined later this week.

As a show of fan appreciation, admission to the game is free and festivities begin with a Vol Walk at 11:30 a.m. along the normal game-day route. At noon, Fans Day returns to the stadium after a one-year relocation because of construction. Fans Day includes autograph sessions with the football team members on the stadium field.

Post Vols spring game

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Some elements will be missing when Tennessee's spring practice ends this weekend with a final scrimmage.

Starting quarterback Erik Ainge won't play. The Volunteers don't plan to use much of their new no-huddle offense, and the most watched position might be defensive tackle.

At least admission is free for this year's Orange and White game today. Still, offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe is encouraging fans to get a sneak peek of their favorite team.

"We're going to be very vanilla and do little of what we would do in this no-huddle situation," Cutcliffe said. "It's going to be fun to watch. I'm not trying to run fans off. I want them all to come. I think they'll see plenty. We're going to throw it around and run it, and the defense is going to chase the ball and hit and compete."

White's Late Score Earns 16-13 Win Over Orange

Lucas Taylor's 2-yard touchdown reception on a perfectly-timed fade pass from Jonathan Crompton in the final minute lifted the White team to a 16-13 spring game victory over the Orange Saturday in Knoxville. The 47th annual Edamerica Orange and White Game now stands 23-21-3 in favor of the Orange.

Crompton completed his final three passes on the afternoon, hitting Austin Rogers twice for gains of 17 and nine yards to set up the winning score. The white team drove 46 yards in four plays, keyed by a 23-yard run from Roy Olasimbo. Crompton finished 13-of-26 passing for 113 yards and an interception in addition to his touchdown.

"I want to thank the fans for a great day," head coach Phillip Fulmer said of the crowd of 17,409 at Neyland Stadium. "Just to put a synopsis on the spring, I think it was productive. It's always difficult when you start trying to replace guys who were first-rounders or first-day draftable guys, fifth-year seniors who have played very well for you. That's everybody's challenge every year."

Noteworthy performances from the game:
* Roy Olasimbo, a senior walk-on, had 7 carries for 114 yards.
* Brett Barnes led all defenders with 13 total tackles.
* Antonio Reynolds had a sack and recovered a fumble on defense.
* Tyler Wolf (a freshman), Ja'Kouri Williams and Jarod Parrish all had picks.

Re: White's Late Score Earns 16-13 Win Over Orange

Please...if you went to the game or have inside knowledge, was there anything different, fresh or exciting that took place? Not trying to be critical of our long established, well over used & very stagnant offense but asking if anything substantial has changed.

It does not matter who the players are, at this stage just if there will be any major offensive scheme changes...

I know many here (doubt that making a change) & to those, it probably won't, BUT to the UT Football Program, SEC, NCAA football scene, UT needs to make major changes.

If Fulmer can do it, DO IT!
If Cutcliff can do it, DO IT!
If Trooper can do it, DO IT!

Someone just make some changes, offensively, UT has become old as rocks and it appears our Coaching Staff is just as hard headed.

Re: White's Late Score Earns 16-13 Win Over Orange

Hey, sorry I meant to say: I know many here doubt making a change is necessary, but our old o scheme ain't what she used to be 30 years ago.

Time for a major re-thinking from the top. Not one team we play isn't famaliar with our 8 play system. In addition when was the last time anyone can remember when UT installed a timely, unexpected, surprising (shocking) play & had enough experience with it that it actually worked?
