The number one-seeded and #3/4-nationally ranked Tennessee Lady Vols (28-3 overall, 14-0 SEC) opens play in its 26th consecutive NCAA Tournament at 7:00 p.m. on Sun., Mar. 18, 2007 taking on the Missouri Valley Conference Champ and #16-seeded Drake (14-18, 5-13 MVC) in Pittsburgh, Pa., in the Petersen Events Center in First Round action. The winner advances to the NCAA Second Round and will take on the winner of the James Madison-Pittsburgh contest on Tues., Mar. 20 (time TBA) on ESPN2.

In order to pull off the biggest upset in NCAA Tournament history, the Bulldogs will need to control the fast-paced Lady Vols' offense, limit turnovers and find an answer to the SEC's leading scorer, Candace Parker.

"These are improbable odds for us," said Drake's leading scorer, Lindsay Whorton, who was named most outstanding player at the Valley tournament. "But we look at it two ways. 1. We've been in this situation before, and 2. We have to take care of the things that we can control."

Let me just say this now. Drake has zero chance of upsetting the Lady Vols. None.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Longtime women's basketball power Tennessee may never have had a 39-point victory that required so much work, effort and emotion.

Tennessee limited Drake to two points in the opening 10 minutes of each half and Alexis Hornbuckle led a late surge in the first half that broke open a tight game, carrying the Lady Vols to a 76-37 victory Sunday night in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The Vols (29-3), the top seed in the Dayton Regional, wasn't supposed to have any trouble with the 16th-seeded Bulldogs (14-19) but got exactly that for most of the first half - leading only 13-9 nearly 12 minutes into the game and 21-14 with 2:21 remaining before halftime.
