Vols assistant David Cutcliffe Up to the minute news about the UT Vols from GoTeamsGo. We'll find the latest TN Volunteer news so you can chat about it with Vol Fans here. Quote: In Cutcliffe, Vols may own a secret weapon
Lancaster Newspapers, PA - 6 hours ago
TAMPA, Fla. - David Cutcliffe didn’t play football in college. But he coached football in college, sort of, and began a sort of lifelong internship.
For which Erik Ainge thanks him. So does Peyton Manning and Eli Manning and Heath Shuler and too many others.
Cutcliffe is Tennessee’s assistant head coach, offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and maybe even secret weapon when the Volunteers face Penn State in Monday’s Outback Bowl.
The Vols’ turnaround this year, from underachieving 5-6 in 2005 to 9-3, is by no means all about Cutcliffe. But it’s no accident that it coincides with Cutcliffe’s return to Knoxville after a strange odyssey that took him to Mississippi and Notre Dame and through 18 days of triple-bypass surgery and complications.
“He’s affected not only (current Vol QB Ainge), but our offensive football team, and that’s affected our entire team,” Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer said Thursday. “We’re elated at the job he’s done here, and it’s what I thought he would do.”
