| The bowl game was a stinker. I think everyone can agree on that. But at the end of the regular season, the Vols were 10-2. That's 10 wins! Only 10 other teams did that this year and the naysayers were expecting more like 6-6 or 7-5. I'm a pretty big tennessee football fan and I wasn't even expecting 10 wins. Sooooo many people are acting like Spurrier is a football god, a "can't miss" deal. Maybe we can consult with Dan Snyder on that. He bet the farm on Spurrier and it cost him plenty. Phil Fulmer has had 11 full years as head coach in Knoxville. 7 of those 11 years have been 10 or more win seasons. That puts Philip in an elite group. Everybody knows about his winning percentage among active coaches. You naysayers act like any schmuck would be able to do that at UT. Get real. How many major college coaches have had a perfect season in those 11 years? Just 7 other coaches. And the mighty Steve Spurrier has no perfect season in his 15 years as a head coach. The most optimistic outcome of Steve Spurrier replacing Fulmer is a marginal improvement, not the magic potion that has UT winning the BCS title every year. Real world is probably more like 2-3 lousy years as the players, fans, alumni, donors and the recruiting world try to adjust to a crazy change. Then we finally get back to being one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the SEC East. There's no way that Spurrier replaces Fulmer in the forseeable future. |
