| Outback Bowl: Vols vs. Penn State Tennessee accepted an invitation Sunday to play Penn State in the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day in a matchup of teams tied for third all-time with 24 bowl victories. Tennessee's trip to Tampa marks the Vols' second appearance in the Outback Bowl and 46th bowl invitation, a figure that ranks second all-time. The Vols defeated Boston College 38-23 in the January 1993 Outback Bowl. That game was Phillip Fulmer's first official contest as head coach of the Volunteers. | Vols Arrive In Tampa For Outback Bowl The Tennessee Volunteers arrived safely in Tampa for the 2007 Outback Bowl against Penn State on Jan. 1. The Vols enjoyed Christmas dinner prior to an initial short team meeting and a night of getting acclimated to the warm and muggy weather following a day of thunderstorms that passed through the area earlier in the day. | Vols Face Tough Test With Penn State In Outback Bowl The Penn State Nittany Lions defense will be facing a Tennessee offense that features the SEC's second-best passing attack. Receiver Robert Meachem has turned in possibly the best season in school history with a school-record 1,265 yards and 11 touchdowns as he became the first Tennessee receiver to earn All-America status since Carl Pickens in 1991. | Re: Outback Bowl: Vols vs. Penn State Corso & Herbstreit both picked the Vols so that makes me worried. Lee said it'll be the lowest scoring game of the day & the 1st 2 series looks like he may be onto something. Joe Pa's up in the pressbox for the game today. I'm hoping for a great game and a last minute win by the Vols.

| Vols Drop Outback Bowl, 20-10 Tennessee tried to rally late, but three turnovers proved to be too costly as an 86-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Penn State's Tony Davis was the difference in a defense struggle on a soggy and rainy gridiron in Southwest Florida, as the Nittany Lions defeated the No. 17 Volunteers, 20-10, in the Outback Bowl at Raymond James Stadium. | Re: Outback Bowl: Vols vs. Penn State I'm not really happy with how either side of the Vols played today but I'm pretty sure we would have won if we had that TD instead of PSU getting it. PSU beat us 3-0 on turnovers so it would have been pretty dang tough to overcome that. The PSU QB really played over his head. The scoop on him had been that he wasn't very good but he had a great game when it mattered. Bret Smith being out really hurt us. Meach & Swain were ok but it's a different game whern there's 3 real threats at WR instead of just 2. Ugh, just wait til next year.
