Re: Davey O'brien QB Award

I know you guys love your boy Ainge, and he's had a great year, but... (knew that was coming, didn't you?) I don't seem him becoming a finalist. Troy Smith and Brady Quinn are locks. Probably Colt McCoy, who should break the freshman TD record. Louisville's Brohm, maybe, if he plays well vs. Rutgers. Haven't checked the numbers for Pitt's Tyler Palko lately but for a lot of the year he was the nation's top rated passer. Then you've got guys like Booty, Leak, Henne, Pat White, all of whom you could make cases for above Ainge. So I personally think this is as far as he gets in the Davey O'Brien award hunt.

Re: Davey O'brien QB Award

I actually have to agree!! This past weekend pretty much shot himself in the foot. When you're the seasoned QB, you shouldn't be taken out of one of the biggest game during the first half. THEN, be shown up by the Freshman QB in return. Crompton definitely took control that game, unfortunately not enough....and the Defense didn't stop when it was the most important!!!

Re: Davey O'brien QB Award

Ainge's poor performance and getting pulled from the LSU game was all about his injury. In fact, before the sack that knocked him out of the game, he had 3 very catchable passes dropped by some of our best receivers, just a fluke. So I can't knock his performance in the LSU game, anybody can get injured.

That being said, I don't think he makes it any further with the Davey O'brien award this year. Hopefully next year, he's back to 100% and can improve greatly on the 2006 season. 2007 should be a great year for the Vols.

Thats true too...I'm just heart-broken about the whole loss. It's just kinda sad that Ainge is hurt often. At least it feels like that. hopefully he'll have a wonderful senior year with the VOLS.

hehe, he better have a great year.... or else Jon Crompton will be getting some more playing time.

Crompton looked like he's gonna be a great QB once he's got a little more experience. Let's hope we've got 2 future Davey O'brien award winners on the current roster

Maybe Crompton can pull a Tee Martin and win us a title the year after Ainge leaves too?....*ponders on that thought* how nice would that be? I wanna go to a BCS bowl again!!!
