UT vs Alabama

After beating up the Georgia Bulldogs, Tennessee comes home for the UT vs Alabama game at Neyland Stadium.

The Vols are 5-1 with only a 1 point loss to undefeated Florida. The Crimson Tide will bring their 4-2 record to Knoxville. But Alabama just hasn't played like a top tier team this year. The headlines around Bama's win over winless Duke say it all:
Disaster Avoided

The Tide had a terrible 1st half against Duke and had to somehow survive the game with a 30-14 win. The score doesn't tell the story as Bama could have easily lost the game.

A big contrast to Bama's problems, Tennessee comes off a 51-33 beating of #10 ranked Georgia. The experience factor tells us something also. UT has played 3 top 10 teams while Alabama has only played 1 ranked team this year.

On paper, this looks like it could be a great chance for Tennessee to improve the all time series record but we all know that the UT vs Alabama game can fall under the "any given Saturday" rules.

What do you think will happen? What's the key to these 2 teams winning the game? And make sure you pick the score!

Re: UT vs Alabama

IMO this is our biggest game, and the biggest revenge game of the year for us.

Re: UT vs Alabama

I'm licking my chops on this one. I think we will beat Bama by 20 points. I usually would be scared about a let down but I really think that Tennessee is still motivated by last year. I think that they feel that they really have something to prove. As I said in another thread Ark. is the only team left that I'm worried about. Not even LSU worries me like Ark. does.

Re: UT vs Alabama

This is a great time to have an off week. It will enable the nagging injuries to heal and the players to get a little relief from the grind of getting prepared for one more opponent. The Georgia win will be very helpful. The coaches will have the opportunity to point out that the players didn't really come to play in the first half, but everyone will be pleased about the fact that good things happen to teams that keep battling when things seem to be against them. Come from behind wins are just about the best things that can happen to a team, especially when their confidence might be flagging a little. The break will also enable the Vols to get their special teams problems worked out. They were very fortunate to win, given the special teams breakdowns against Georgia. That just can't be allowed to happen again, especially against a quality opponent. The Georgia result shows just how far the Vols have come. They won convincingly even when they were much less than their best.

Re: UT vs Alabama

Alabama didn't look too sharp last week as they struggled to put away Duke. Tennessee has played very well this year and appears to have reclaimed their normal spot among the nation's elite. I am leaning towards the Vols in this one.

Tenn 31
Bama 21

This is an arch-rivalry kind of game, so it usually turns out to be closer than casual fans expect. Tennessee is now dramatically better than they were against Florida, so Alabama will have to play lights out to have any real chance to win. A 10-point UT win sounds about right to me.

Re: UT vs Alabama

The coaches have to keep us focused. If we stay focused, we will win this game. If not, it will be close and we could be in for a long night after that.

I wouldn't worry about that too much. Cal still has to play USC.

Re: UT vs Alabama

I'm not worried about our past games. We always play up or down to our competition and this one will be close. Don't think for a second that we are weak, the offense is as good as it has ever been, if we can just put it all together. I still think Tennessee has the potential to be the best team in the SEC, I'm just not exactly sure of their running game on both offense and defense. IMO, we should be 6-0 heading into Knoxville, as I think we outplayed both Florida and Arkansas. We are most definately better than Arkansas. It'll be close, and It'll come down to a big play or two on either side. We've got D.J Hall and Keith Brown and then Tennessee has Robert Meachem, so it's anybodies guess.
