TN Titans Prospects

The Vegas odds on the under-over for the TN Titans is at 5.5 wins this year. I thought it would be worth taking a look around to see what everybody thinks of our chances at beating the odds.

TheSportsGuru Picks
One of our new members is The Sports Guru who predicts a 4-12 season for the TN Titans. Among the highlights of his analysis are:
  • Listing Head Coach Jeff Fisher as a team strength but predicting his departure.
  • Pointing out that Young is likely to follow the path of Michael Vick and struggle to help the Titans win.

Holden's Rants
Holden's Rants also predicts a 4-12 season for the TN Titans. He slams Bud Adams for picking up a couple high profile draft picks who do nothing to help with immediate needs. Attributing the draft of Vince Young to a desire to " stick it to his former home of Houston," he says that Bud wants to have Vince Young starting the December game against the Texans. I'm in agreement that the best case would have been to keep McNair as a 1 year mentor for Young. Nashville & Vince Young would have both been better off if Bud had made it happen.

Dogfish Picks
Dogfish doesn't give us a prediction for a record but he does give us an upbeat 3rd place AFC East prediction. Along with a really detailed analysis, dogfish thinks we'll surprise a few teams this season. I'm hoping that's right because the Titans invariable seem to lose some that we're supposed to win. Among the strengths listed are the Titans running game and an improved defense. Drew Bennett & David Givens are given props as top notch receivers for Billy Volek but the offense is inexperienced as a whole.

He tells us to expect the linebackers to be the strength of the TN Titans defense. The D line might be good but the secondary is the place where we really need help.

Gridiron Gurus Picks
Gridiron Gurus says:

Remember the Titans!!!!

Actually you are probably better off if you forget them this year.
This Guru calls for a 3-13 season with wins over Houston, the Giants, and the Pats. He's got a pretty good run down of both sides of the ball. Concensus on the Vince Young is the future of the Titans... Backfield is pretty strong with all those horses jockeying for touches. Gridiron_Gurus calls Givens and Bennett solid but we've got nobody up to his standards after that. A healthy offensive line will be a team strength but the slightly improved defense will stay below average for the NFL.

My Picks
My most up to date prediction is 5-11. I don't agree with TheSportsGuru that we open 0-8. I think we've got a really good chance to win the opener against the Jets. I'm also counting on wins at Houston, against Baltimore, against the NYGiants, and at Buffalo.

What do you guys think about these predictions and the TN Titans prospects for beating the odds this season?

Re: TN Titans Prospects

I dislike the Jets pick more and more every day but figured I would stick with it. When I do my Week 1 selctions I may change my mind, depending on how each team looks in the pre-season....

Today's inter-team brawl can either help or hurt matters, we shall see..

Thanks for the TrackBack!

Re: TN Titans Prospects

Got another opinion to add to the mix.

Javadog Sports Picks
Todd at Javadog doesn't give us a prediction on the record but he does share what he thinks should have happened to Bud Adams for dissing McNair (think dueling banjos). He also says he thinks we can make a splash this year with Vince Young. Javadog picks the TNTitans to finish 3rd in the AFC South.

No Titans preview here yet, just a reminder to myself to check for it at a later date.

Re: TN Titans Prospects

Young was a stretch at #3. We have seen with Michael Vick that a running QB has trouble winning consistently in this league. You have to be able to read defenses and Young had trouble with that in college. There is no denying his athletic ability and he will definately be fun to watch, but longterm I question his upside. The Titans are banking their future on Young and Fisher may not be the right coach to get him where he needs to go. I think the TItans will struggle this season, and Fisher will be somewhere else this time next year.

Wow talk about disting the scrambling QBs...At least we know the Titans didn't feel the same way...since they signed himfor big bucks...

The thing with the atletic QBs is they don't have to sit in the pocket and progress through 5 options...cause they can take off with it for 6 or 7 yards...I am willing to bet if all starting QBs had the speed of Young and Vick, no one would look pass their 2nd receiving option.
