I know but he can earn it anyway.
He's an older quarterback who had a good year but has been mediocre all his life. It would be a mistake to cave in to him. This is not a Kurt Warner.

Re: Should Kerry Collins Enter Camp The Starter

I think he's had some good years. He was pretty darn good in his younger days, and he deserves a shot, but not a lock to be the starter, no.

Re: Should Kerry Collins Enter Camp The Starter

What Kerry has done for us this year, im sure no Titans fans will forget very soon. He took over a team that we expected would be led by the next generation of players and led them to one of the best seasons since the last Super Bowl run.

Should he be the starter next year? I would like to see him come back, but he also has to realise he is not in the position to demand a starting position, he had a great season for sure, but he is old and he is not going to get any better. So if the Titans don't resign him, who will take on an ageing QB with only a season or 2 left in him?

From the sounds of it the team wants to bring Chris Simms in to the picture at some point, maybe as a veteran QB instead of Kerry, maybe just some one to push for the starting job with Vince...i think we are lucky that we have 3 capable QB's on our roster so whichever one eventually becomes the starter, we will be ok

Re: Should Kerry Collins Enter Camp The Starter

kerry collins could be alot better if he had recievers like kurt warner has and gets the attempts as kurt had this year as well some people are to cought up in stats that they forget to look at why the stats are the way they are in the first place, for example:

lets say cb(a) covers a wr so good the ball hardly goes his way compared to cb(b) who doesnt cover as well but has make up speed while the ball is in the air and cb(b) gets more picks at the end of the season than cb(a) because cb(b) gets more balls thrown his way.now that doesnt mean cb(b) is better than cb(a) but if you looked at both cb's stats at the end of the season people would say cb(b) was better when that isnt exactly true.i know that might have been a bit confusing but what im trying to say is that stats are over rated and people shouldnt look at stats and say one player is better than the other what people should look at is what player do more to help his team win, so in this situation with collins is should we look at his age and what numbers he put up or should we look at the wins he lead the titans to and how much leadership he brought to the team?

Re: Should Kerry Collins Enter Camp The Starter

Thats kind of a convoluted thread Titans#1, but the thing is Collins is an older quarterback. And if you want to know the truth, I think Warner needs to fight for the starter job also. They both need to prove that they are still the guy next year.

Re: Should Kerry Collins Enter Camp The Starter

The thing with Kerry Collins to me is yeah he can throw, but did he really put up great numbers? I'm not sure how he got voted to the pro bowl ahead of many other deserving QBs but, I feel like VY could've done the same thing, if not more to boost the offence. Like the guy needs to be cut some slack, he makes a few mistakes and everyone is hating him. I would love to see what VY and CJ can do together, along with a better receiving core. Although Gage is proving to be a solid addition I think a draft pick would help give them a few more threats, or a free agent addition. Also, Mike Heimingdinger to me is a much better offensive coordinator than Norm Chow and I think he can make some good plays that expose Young's abilities, plus I also think they have a better O-line in front of him so there's just multiple reasons for Kerrys 'success'. So no I don't think Kerry Collins should be the starter at training camp, I don't even think they need him on the team with Chris Simms there to push VY.

If you think VY could have put up numbers as good as Kerry did than your wrong, because of one stat and that would be the int's VY throws more int's than td's.VY is a good qb but we shouldnt keep rushing him out on the field we need to keep a veteran like Kerry and let VY learn from him.

Re: Should Kerry Collins Enter Camp The Starter

I won't be surprised if Kerry is back, and yeah Kerry didn't throw as many INT's but I think a better run game helped that phase, particularly the addition of CJ. I basically just like VY and think that he's getting a lot of slack even though he's still a very young and inexperienced qb. I guess I'm basically just hoping that they don't waste his potential because I really think he has some good stuff that he's waiting to show the league.

Fisher will give him another chance, it will just take time.

haha well I hope your right, I'm glad to hear that someone is still optimistic about Vince Young in this forum. And what you said about him in the other thread about him being able to play in the NFL is true too and he has proven it many times...last time I checked he still has a pretty good record as a QB in the NFL and that should only get better with time

ya the titans are heading in the right direction and they are handling the VY situation the best way possible and in a few years from now when VY is taking the tians to the playoffs and winning big games all the haters will finally stop critisizing........hopefully
