Re: McNair traded to Ravens

I can hardly wait for the brand-new football season to begin! Vince Young, Reggie Bush and all the new draft-picks will take their first step into the NFL, while the veterans continue to play their best.

Here are some articles to follow up on that fascinating subject.

Quote:
Two years ago, the Ravens felt they made the move that would put them over the top.

After Terrell Owens and his former agent failed to submit the paperwork that would have voided Owens' contract and made him a free agent, the Ravens worked out a trade with the 49ers. Ray Lewis and other Ravens felt they had done a good job of recruiting Owens at the Pro Bowl and that he'd be a good fit in Baltimore.

Crap, what a shame. A guy gives everything for this team except a testicle and he's traded to his arch-rival for a fourth-rounder. Say it ain't so!

Hi HAMMERHEAD76, welcome to GoTeamsGo

It's just been plain weird watching the McNair thing unfold. I'm in Nashville so get the latest news on tv & radio all day long. I think it would have been good for everybody if Vince could have learned under McNair for a year or 2.

All boils down to money. He wanted more than the Titans would pay.

Look forward to chatting with you.

Re: McNair traded to Ravens

I guess this is something that neither Tennessee or Steve could work out. There's the 'fan' side of me that wishes that Bus Cook would have done more to restructure a deal and then there's the 'NFL as a buisness' side of me that understands the situation Floyd Reese and the Titans brass found themselves in. I really can't lay blame to any one side in this.

I bet the whole training facility circus kind of hurt Steve more than we think. I don't know. I'm in Knoxville, and our local sports-talk radio cover dove hunting better than Titans current events. I know that before that happened, Steve may have pressured Cook to re-work a deal to help Tennessee with the cap, but that training facility deal was probably the 'last straw' in his mind.

It's a extra kick in the teeth that he's gonna be playing for Baltimore this season. Look for him to have a great year.... Steve and Derrek Mason will do some damage. They can read each other's mind out there...

lol, I'm in Nashville but more of a Vols fan. 1510am used to do a great job covering the Vols but when they went to new mgmt a year or 2 ago, they just kind of dried up. Fortuately, they didn't fill the void with Dove hunting reports

Steve & the Titans had a really good run together. It was mutually beneficial & profitable. I doubt that there's any ill will between the 2 parties. While I hate that it couldn't be worked out, there's really noone to blame beyond the originators of the salary cap.

I expect that in a year or 2, Steve will retire and be known as a Titan icon.

Re: McNair traded to Ravens

Well i thought McNair had pretty good stats last year and it wasnt his fault they had a bad year. Their defense was horrible. They were embarrasing. Pacman Jones should just be a returner not on defense at all. Vince Young may be just like McNair. He can scramble and everything. Then they laid the blame on McNair and they wont give him an extra 2 million for him to stay. They may make the playoffs but doubtful.

Welcome to GoTeamsGo, MatrixNB43. Glad you found us here!

Its definitely a shame that things ended the way they did for Steve McNair in Tennessee. How bad was their defense last season? Do you happen to know their yardage or scoring rankings from 2005? And what changes would you make to help fix things?

Re: McNair traded to Ravens

This is just my opinion. If players in the NFL today werent so money hungry then this all wouldnt be a problem. Why couldnt Mcnair just take a salary cut? Isnt a team player one whos saying Im dedicated to my fans. When your rich as cream already does it make much sense not to take a little cut for the status of you being a icon in the Titans name? I dont know Just thinking bout it. If I had seen my team in a bind of that much of a salary cap hit if I had been hurt then and I was already rich as cream. I feel as if I would have been dedicated to my team to just take a pay cut. I also see the side of Mcnair though as well. He was put in a bind. I personally think that Mcnair doesnt have much left in him. I think Billy Volek should have started a year ago and that Pacman should be on the defense. He was a ROOKIE last year and thrown in the NFL as a starter. I wouldnt expect anyone to do great there first year in those circumstances. He will explode this year.

Re: McNair traded to Ravens

Welcome back, Aaron! Seems like its been a while since you visited! It would have been nice to see the two sides work out a new deal, but all hope of that was lost when the team banned McNair from their practice facilities. Right or wrong, the QB took it as a personal affront. Its a shame that more of these guys aren't like John Elway. I've never heard it officially confirmed, but word is that he was making league minimum when he won those two Super Bowls, and he did it to keep his offensive line in place.
