The Titans have signed defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to a two-year contract extension. Schwartz was a candidate for three head coach vacancies over the past month. The 13-year NFL veteran, helped the improvement of the Titans defense in 2007. The unit rose to the fifth overall defense after finishing dead last in most yards surrendered in 2006.
He has been with the Titans since 1999. Before that, Schwartz worked for the Cleveland Browns (1995) and Baltimore Ravens (1996-9. Early in his career he worked for current New England coach Bill Belichick.
Schwartz interviewed this year for the head coach openings in Washington, Miami and Atlanta. Financial details of the extension were not available.
