Titans Haynesworth insists on long-term deal

Albert Haynesworth doesn't know when the Titans can designate him a franchise player. But he does know if they do so and then show no intention of wanting him beyond 2008, he'll be upset. "I'd be disappointed because that would mean they don't really want me here long term," Haynesworth said Thursday. "If they franchise me, I feel like they don't really want me here long term, then I'll prepare myself to play like that." The All-Pro defensive tackle didn't sound like he was delivering a threat. He was saying, rather, that in such a scenario he'd prepare for 2008 expecting it to be his last season in Tennessee. If the Titans tag Haynesworth and assure him they intend to continue work toward a new contract, it's a different matter. "That would be great, that's what happened to (Colts defensive end) Dwight Freeney last year and he got a deal worked out," he said. "I hope that happens, if that's the case, if they want to do it that way. "But if they franchise me just to keep me here one more year, I'd be disappointed with that. I'd just have to prepare myself to be able to hit the market next year." Without a new contract Haynesworth would become a free agent on Feb. 29, But with the franchise player tag the Titans can assure themselves of one more year from him. -- Tennessean

and we wouldn't sign him to a contract to keep him with us for the rest of his life because....we don't have enough money? we don't have anyone good enough to play next to him? he isn't a good enough player?

come on...i mean what do we need all that salary cap money for when we have a player like Big Al waiting for a contract and more money?

Exactly, its already been shown how our defense is without him, pay the man his money!! If we franchise him were gonna piss him off and you can forget thinking about a long term deal..

hell yes! and if the team don't wanna pony up the dough ill do it, because like you said our defense is nothing without him.

Imagen him, kyle and a new defensive end from the draft and a free agent defensive tackle...we would have an awesome D-Line

as long as we keep vanden bosh, bulluck, and al were solid defensively. Are they wanting to save the freaking money in a piggie bank..This isnt blowing money, this insuring that we will have a top notch defense. I swear they better not screw this up..

i know, i was pissed when we lost Henry and Bennett because of money issues...of course the Henry thing worked out in the end.

but for our defense to keep going we need Kyle and Al on the line, Keith behind them and Hope, Harper and Finnegan in the backfield...and all we need to do is work around them

Re: Titans Haynesworth insists on long-term deal

Haynesworth wants a long term deal? Well, what are you waiting for - give the man what he wants and be thankful you've got a stud defensive tackle like this who wants to stay in Tennessee. You guys are absolutely right, alex and vince - if they blow this, they might as well just can the GM right now.

They should give him whatever he wants. If you look at the stats, when he plays they win. When he has been out of the lineup, they lose. I think it is pretty clear he is important to the team.
