Jim Schwartz the Front Runner to Succeed Joe Gibbs as Redskins Coach

Although the early names that came up as the Redskins' next coach after Joe Gibbs announced his retirement were the ones you would expect -- Bill Cowher and Gregg Williams -- a new name has emerged as the apparent front runner.
Tom Curran of NBC Sports reports that Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is the favorite for the job after an impressive interview with the Redskins' brass.

It's easy to see why Schwartz would impress Redskins owner Dan Snyder: He's smart, he's well spoken, he probably understands the use of statistical analysis better than any other coach in the NFL, and he coordinated a Titans defense that was one of the best in the league in 2007.

And you can tell Redskins fans, "May the Schwartz be with you!"

Seriously, though, what happened to hiring from within? Snyder's going to force this team to learn yet another new system?

it would be a HUGE loss to the team if we lost Schwartz becuase he has been an unsung hero in the teams development, taking young and unproven guys...and turning them into one of the top 5 best defense's in the NFL, up from 31st...i would do everything it took to keep him

oh HELL YES! i mean he hasnt done much to improve the offense, i think he is still pretty pissed we didnt draft Leinart and he has been saying he wants to move since he got to us...why do we need someone like him around?

I don't buy this, Schneider wants a big splash and if he doesn't get it he will give the job to Greg Williams.

yeah definatly agree with that, like i said he has been pouting since we didnt pick up Leinart and i think he is upset that he had to watch another one of his Trojans sit on the bench behind Henry for a year...i dont think Chow has helped us much since he has come to us becuase Vince was allowed to do his own thing in his rookie season and you can see what happens when he has to play behind a playbook...yeah get rid of Chow and keep Jim, simple as that

I thought it was a pre-arranged deal that Williams was getting the job.
