| Titans Sign Corey Simon ![]() The Titans have agreed to terms with former Colts defensive tackle Corey Simon, who is expected to bolster what was one of the NFL's worst run defenses last season. Simon, who visited with Titans officials last week, could be on the practice field as early as today. Tennessee ranked 30th in run defense last season, giving up almost 145 yards per game.Terms of Simon's contract with the Titans were not immediately available. “Corey brings a combination of run-stuffing size and pass rushing ability to the defensive tackle position,” said Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt. “Prior to last season, he has been a consistent and productive player who contributed to playoff teams and we are excited to see him get a second chance here with the Titans to prove he still has that ability.” The Colts signed Simon to a five-year, $30 million contract in 2005. They terminated the contract on Aug. 4, in part due to Simon's health issues. Simon did not play last season because of a knee injury and an undisclosed illness. In 91 regular season and 13 postseason games, Simon has 351 tackles and 33 sacks. A sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2000, he was a Pro Bowl selection in 2003. To make room for Simon on the roster, the Titans released former Brentwood Academy kicker John Vaughn. Titans agree to terms with Simon - Nashville, Tennessee - Tuesday, 08/28/07 - Tennessean.com |
