Vince Young Throws Punch

Young has never hid his competitive spirit, whether back in college at Texas or since being drafted last year by the Titans. During training camp last year, he leveled defensive tackle Randy Starks after having a pass intercepted. Nickey, who primarily plays special teams and played at Ohio State, had knocked down receiver Joel Filani earlier when the rookie ran the wrong route, a post when the defense was defending against the post.
Trainers helped Filani to the side, then Nickey broke up the pass by taking receiver Courtney Roby to the ground on the very next play by putting his right arm around Roby's neck in a chokehold move. Young, who had thrown the pass, erupted.
He yelled at Nickey and asked him what he was doing, telling him to quit that stuff. Young ran over as Roby stayed on the ground. Nickey put his right hand on Young's chest before the quarterback shoved back and took a swing at the safety.
Tight end Bo Scaife came in and helped push Nickey away from the fray, and 13-year veteran center Kevin Mawae got in front of Young, pushing him clear. Young took several minutes to cool off and continued yelling back.
Fisher pulled his team together at midfield and reminded them to cool it. After practice ended, Nickey met with Roby and shared a half hug, and Young hugged Nickey. Fisher then made the three stand behind him as he talked with reporters.

Im glad he stuck up for his wr...that said, Note to vince young: DONT THROW PUNCHES WITH YOUR THROWING HAND..

Re: Vince Young Throws Punch

Saw clips of it on ESPN, wasn't anything to get worried about. Like you said, just him standing up for his guys.

They were all laughing about it afterwards in front of reporters. He knows it wasn't smart using his throwing hand to punch a guy with a helmet on, lol.

Fisher has his ship in order, always does.

Vince has every right to be mad cause u dont pull that stuff in training camp or anywhere and the heat is just provokin it so i would do the exact same thing.

Re: Vince Young Throws Punch

its funny but when i see this story i can only think of the positives you get from it. Coach Fisher summed it all up when he said

"The guys stick up for the quarterback, and he sticks up for his teammates, Enough said."

i mean the way Vince reacted may have been heated but his intentions were good and if i rememeber correctly Donnie Nickey got into a confrontation LAST training camp with LenDale White. at the end of the day Nickey, a 4th year safety who will likely be a backup for the rest of his career, isnt really showing the talents to be on the team if hes going to be pushing recievers to the floor durning practice.

i admire Vince for sticking up for his team mate and people like Bo Scaife and Kevin Mawae for backing him up, "but Vince...next time you wanna throw a punch...dont use your throwing hand " imagen what everyone was thinking when he swung his hand round and they could see our season going down the toilet had he connected with Nickey's helmet

Re: Vince Young Throws Punch

Yeah, I agree with you guys. In spirit, it's great that he's sticking up for his teammates, and normally I'd applaud a guy for it. But the LAST thing I'd want to see as a fan is my franchise QB throwing a punch like that. One of the big hogs up front should know enough to step in front of him and take point on a situation like that. You see that all the time in games - a QB getting hot at a defensive player, and - BOOM! - there's suddenly a guard or a tackle getting in the middle and taking control of the situation, getting into the guy's face in lieu of the QB.

Re: Vince Young Throws Punch

So our young quarterback is a little feisty.
Its good to know he steps up for his guys, but I agree I would have had heart failure to see him take a swing at a helmet with his throwing hand. He's bright. He'll learn.

ha ha, yeah vince i know exactly what your talking about, it was during the Pats game, Vince threw an interception and i rememeber vividly that no other player seemed to make a move to stop the guy, most likely becuase we were down by a lot and it was in the 4th quater, but Vince sped off down the field (remember the ball was about 30 yards+ away by this point) and made a sort of 'close-line' tackle on the guy that intercepted the ball...i remeber coming away thinking. we are down to the Pats on the last game of the season, its the 4th quater, there is no point in going all out now..yet this guy was playing like it was the first minutes of the first quater of the Super Bowl...what a guy huh
