Post Rookie from Auburn giving Bironas competition at kicker

Ah, the life of an NFL kicker. Rob Bironas set a Tennessee record by kicking four game-winning field goals in 2006, including a 60-yarder to beat the Indianapolis Colts in December. All that earned him was competition in training camp from a strong-legged rookie from Auburn to make sure he doesn't get too comfortable.

Re: Rookie from Auburn giving Bironas competition at kicker

so has this guy got a realistic chance of beating Bironas out for a place in the team or has he just been brought in to add some fear factor.

personally i dont think that Bironas is AS GREAT as people thought last season, i mean when he got THOSE field goals against the Mannings i thought he was the best thing since sliced bread, but its not until you think about it properly that things begin to come to light. before those games he wasnt a great place kicker and then the offense and defense got the game back for us and set him up with a pretty simple close range field goal, which realistically any NFL kicker should be getting.
the in the Colts game it was the offense and defense once again that won the game for us and even though Bironas got the 60yard field goal he said he didnt think he could make it and it was largely wind assisted...which doesnt instill a lot of confidence that put in that position again he could do the same.

i think the competition is good, not becuase Bironas is thinking like LenDale White (oh im gonna be the starter this year) but maybe he might turn this mediocre kicker into a better one
