Young lures Titans WRs home to Texas

Tennessee quarterback Vince Young is going all out to bring some of the Titans receivers to Houston to work out during a break in training in Nashville.

Re: Young lures Titans WRs home to Texas

you see now its things like this which is why this guy is so unbelievable, how many NFL QB's (and now ive said that im sure im going to get a lot of people replying to that comment ) would take his wide recievers away, some old and some new, to his home town to train with him and foot the bill for the whole thing, just to get to know them better, build a better relationship with them and generally try to make them a stronger recieving unit for next season...will this guy ever stop doing things that amaze me? i hope not

so what do you guys thing about this situation?

great stuff, thats why VY is the man and will bring nashville a title..What a good idea to get everyone together workout ,hangout build a better friendship bond, I believe this will do wonders, hes following the likes of urlacher, I heard he takes his defensive unit out for bowling all the time and they work out together..

I have heard of other quarterbacks doing it. Its the smart ones that do stuff like that though. And to think Young was low on the Wonderlic test.

You're right. He's a great young quarterback and I think we will hear a lot more good stuff about him in the future.

Guess there are always exceptions to the rule Simon.

Hmm, I love stories like this. Good for Young. He's proven he wants to win and has the dedication to do whatever it takes to do better, and in doing so he's just stepped up as the leader of this team in the eyes of his teammates (if he hadn't already). The only story that comes close is when Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson spent a bye week at a Colts game so they could observe how Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison worked together, not just on the field but on the sidelines, while the defense was on the field, and so on.

I forget which QB it was...maybe Trent Dilfer for the Browns. Braylon Edwards held out from training camp his rookie year. Dilfer? got with him at home to go over routes with him, so he wouldn't be that far behind when he did sign. Too bad he wasn't a better QB.

Actually, Manning is renowned for things such as this. Maybe not footing the bill for his receivers to fly across country but, maybe that's because they're already there.

Who doesn't know the story of Manning and Marvin Harrison out on the field way before anyone else and working on every type of pass play? Manning thinks football 24-7 and trys to involve everyone that he can. Those personal workouts on the field before everyone else has drawn some other Colts out there too.

When Joseph Addai came in, Manning was going to his house after practices to go over the play-book with Addai.

And there's many, many similar situations like this that Manning is involved in.

This bodes well for Vince Young. He appears to be following in Manning's footsteps. All QBs should be doing this. I played QB for a couple of seasons - as a kid I'm talking about. My favorite receiver and I would go work out on our own after everyone else was gone - Sundays too. But that's mostly because we were good friends too - did everything together.

I kind of figured Manning would be one of those guys who worked with his teammates like this, but its not really publicized. I couldn't agree more with the highlighted comments. This shows me Young has a good grasp on what is necessary to find success at this level, and it's a darn shame more NFL QBs aren't this dedicated to finding a rapport with their teammates in this manner.

Manning is in his own class when it comes to these things.

So what new QBs out there can take a page out of the Young playbook in this area?

Brady Quinn comes immediately to mind as a guy who should. If he's gonna hold out, he should meet with his wideouts on the side and get to work.

Not a bad idea. At least he won't risk isolating them in the process of a holdout.

Re: Young lures Titans WRs home to Texas

i think Alex Smith should be taking notes and so should JaMarcus Russel. Smith becuase i think at this point he might as well try ANYTHING to help make his playing better even if that means going with his recievers to a spa or something lol and Russel not becuase he is a bad QB but i dont think it could do any harm to trying it out.

i mean is there anything wrong with Vince's thing? realistically shouldnt every QB in the NFL try something like this no matter how good they are?
