| Titans 2007 Draft TEAM PICKS R1/19 Michael Griffin (FS) R2/50 Chris Henry (RB) R3/80 Paul Williams (WR) R4/115 Leroy Harris (C) R4/128 Chris Davis (WR) R5/152 Antonio Johnson (DT) R6/188 Joel Filani (WR) R6/204 Jacob Ford (DE) R6/206 Ryan Smith (CB) R7/223 Michael Otto (OT) Michael Griffin Scouting Report: A Second-Team All-American, Griffin had a very productive career at Texas. While he's able to make the big interception and has good return skills when he does, Griffin is foremost a lights-out hitter. His rare combination of intensity and above-average overall athleticism allow him to constantly be around the action, where he's often the guy making the play. Griffin also showed a lot of versatility as a Longhorn, playing several positions in the secondary and setting the Texas record for most blocked punts in a season (4). He may be even better as a pro than he was in college. Impact: The year-long loss of Pacman Jones hurts the Tennessee secondary, but Griffin will definitely help them. Along with Chris Hope (who was very good for them last year as a free agent addition), Griffin will give the Texans a big-play safety corps. He is also able to play cornerback, which is vital considering the loss of Pacman. The Titans probably need a top young wideout prospect more, but Griffin looks like the best talent available at this point and the Titans certainly can Paul Williams WR ![]() YouTube - paul williams Scouting Report: Named to the All-WAC First Team as a junior, Williams has above-average size and speed for a wideout. He really excelled in 2005, but his senior campaign was a definite letdown. Williams is a very talented pure receiver, able to find a way to get open on his own and either out-run or out-leap his defenders. The problem is he doesn't seem to focus on the little things, like route-running and blocking. That suggests he might be a bust of a pick, but his great talent-level suggests he might also be a steal. Impact: The Titans certainly need more talent at wide receiver, but Williams is a risky pick. He has very good size to outmuscle opponenets and jets to out-run them, but like a lot of the players the Titans pick, he is raw. That puts him in a pool of other raw-but-talented wideouts already on the Tennessee roster. This is a bit of a stretch for a third-round pick, but the Titans seem to like what they like. ![]() Joel Filani WR Scouting Report: An All-Big 12 performer, Filani led his conference in receiving yards per game in 2006 (with almost 103). A top possession receiver prospect, he was very productive at Texas Tech. While not blazing fast, Filani is fast enough for a guy his size and he makes the most of his natural talent. He is most effective in the mid-range game and is very sure-handed, making him a solid end-zone target. He doesn't get the hype he probably deserves, and is the type of receiver who could have a long and productive career in the NFL. |
