Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper reports that Titans quarterback Vince Young will grace the cover of Madden 2008, the only NFL-licensed football video game. Young is the first one-year player to appear the cover of the game. In past seasons, a Madden curse has been tied to players who have gotten this "honor." Guys who suffered injury or ineffectiveness in the season on which they appeared on the cover of the most popular football title include Daunte Culpepper (2001, for Madden 2002), Ray Lewis (2004, for Madden 2005), Donovan McNabb (2005, for Madden 2006), and Shaun Alexander (2006, for Madden 2007).

you know its a possiblilty, i mean as much as players say that the "madden curse" doesnt effect them it has done to every single player that has been on the cover, but i think going into his second season Vince HOPEFULLY shouldnt have to many problems, of course things dont look good with a minimal and youthful offense and an aging QB as his backup

I dont buy into it either, but I will say its weird the things thats happend to past madden players, I think its pretty cool though him getting on it after his rookie year, no one else has done that, just another achievement for the legacy that is VY..

While one would think the honor would be warmly welcomed, some believe it is an omen. The so-called Madden curse allegedly spells doom for athletes who grace the cover of the game. San Diego Chargers fans even began an online petition to beg EA not to put their star player, MVP Ladainian Tomlinson, on the cover.

"We don't believe in no jinx,'' Young's agent, Major Adams, told The Tenneseean. "People said when they put Vince on the cover of Sports Illustrated [that] it was going to jinx him in the Rose Bowl game, and [Texas] won the national championship. We don't believe in stuff like that. In the unfortunate event he gets hurt, it is just a part of the game, not because you have the cover.''
