Pacman Jones suspended

THE NFL must have been listening to ThePundit. A year is just right.

Re: PACMAN suspended 2007

'Atta boy.

Too bad it took all this for the league to dish out such a punishment.

Now it's all up to Jones whether he'll continue his thug ways or turn his life/career around and start acting like a man.

Re: PACMAN suspended 2007

Yep, this was the right way to do it. Way to go, Roger Goodell.

Hope the message gets through loud and clear - not just to Jones, but to Chris Henry and all the troublemakers.

Pacman Out for 2007

so we finally find out the fate of Pacman Jones many run in's with the law and its that he has been suspended for the entire 2007 season, which i think is just about right, not thrown out of the game but i think giving him that big a supsension might give him the kick up the butt he needs to go straight, so thoughts on the suspension? to harsh or to leniant? anything you would add to it or take away from it?

NFL suspends Pacman Jones, Bengals' Henry

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has informed Adam Jones of the Tennessee Titans and Chris Henry of the Cincinnati Bengals that they have been suspended without pay for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy and engaging in conduct detrimental to the league on numerous occasions, the NFL announced.
Jones was suspended for the 2007 season, while Henry was suspended for the first eight games of the 2007 regular season. Each player must earn the right to be reinstated.
"We must protect the integrity of the NFL," Commissioner Goodell said. "The highest standards of conduct must be met by everyone in the NFL because it is a privilege to represent the NFL, not a right. These players, and all members of our league, have to make the right choices and decisions in their conduct on a consistent basis."
In a letter to each player, Commissioner Goodell wrote: "Your conduct has brought embarrassment and ridicule upon yourself, your club, and the NFL, and has damaged the reputation of players throughout the league. You have put in jeopardy an otherwise promising NFL career, and have risked both your own safety and the safety of others through your off-field actions. In each of these respects, you have engaged in conduct detrimental to the NFL and failed to live up to the standards expected of NFL players. Taken as a whole, this conduct warrants significant sanction."
Jones will be strictly monitored by the Titans and the NFL during the suspension as part of his opportunity to earn reinstatement through adherence to a set of conditions. His status will be reviewed after the Titans' 10th regular-season game to determine the extent to which he has complied with the conditions and whether the suspension should be affected by the disposition of any pending or prospective charges.
The specific conditions that apply to Jones' suspension include the following:
  • He must have no further adverse involvement with law enforcement.
  • He must fully cooperate with all required counseling, education, and treatment assigned under league or court-ordered programs.
  • He must adhere to the restrictions on his activities that have been agreed to by he and the Titans.
  • He may not be at the Titans' facility through May 31 and may not participate in any practices or organized workouts during the term of the suspension. Beginning June 1, he must visit the team facility once each week to meet with the team's player development director. Also, beginning June 1, he is permitted to spend one day a week at the team facility for conditioning, film study, and other similar activities.
  • In conjunction with the team's player development director and other professionals working with him, Jones must develop with the Titans a structured program of community service or other activity. This program must be submitted to the league office for review and approval.
Henry will be reinstated after the Bengals' eighth regular-season game if he meets certain conditions during his suspension that will be monitored closely by the Bengals and the NFL. Those conditions include the following:
  • He must have no further adverse involvement with law enforcement.
  • He must fully cooperate with all required counseling, education, and treatment assigned to him under league programs.
  • He is eligible to be at the Bengals' facilities during the rest of the offseason for customary activities and he must meet weekly with the team's player development director.
  • If he fully complies with all other conditions, he may participate in the Bengals' training camp and preseason games.
  • During the regular season, he is permitted to be at the Bengals' facility for team meetings and must meet weekly with the team's player development director, but he may not attend or participate in practice.
  • He must fully comply with all conditions imposed on him by any court, including requirements of community service.
Jones and Henry were told that any failure to comply with these conditions will result in additional discipline, including possible banishment from the league.
"I must emphasize to you that this is your last opportunity to salvage your NFL career," Commissioner Goodell wrote to Jones and Henry. "I urge you to take full advantage of the resources available to support you in that effort."

I think his penalty is what we expected, if he mans up and stays straight and learns from this, then it will be a good thing, I know if I had lost 1.3 mil I would def change my ways.

Re: Pacman Out for 2007

Hope no one minds, but I merged all three of the Pacman suspension threads into one. So far it seems like the general consensus is that the punishment is what was expected, and that hopefully Pacman will learn from it. Anyone here think a season-long suspension was excessive? Not harsh enough?

I do think Henry should've had atleast a year instead of 8 games, his rap sheet is just as long if not longer than pacs, considering he was suspected in connection with a sex crime, a couple dui's, violating substance abuse program, and most recently providing alcohol to minors at a hotel..

Re: Pacman Jones suspended

A few games would be alright but whole season is punishing the team not just him I do not agree to this because the charges are not even following through and completely done. Like being guilty without court.

Then maybe they need to let him go? Too bad for the Titans that they are effected for someone elses attitude.

Re: Pacman Jones suspended

i think if we were going to get rid of Pacman we probably would have done it by now but i think the team is hoping that the league would deal with the punishment and then once he served his 'sentence' he would come back as a better man and thus he would come back into the team beucase like ive always said he is a good player with all the potential to be a great one especially as a return man, i mean i was watching some of his returns and they are unbelievable. but they definatly hit him where it hurts, in his wallet, so hopefully realising that he could be a bum on the street in a second will make him realise how much he needs to grown up and start acting like a man if he wants to continue getting his dough-ray-me

Re: Pacman Jones suspended

i was just watching the NFL Network and according to the full report Pacman is allowed to reapply to be reinstated into the league in week 10 providing he stays clean for that period of time, is cleared of the charges in Georgia and is aquited of any possible charges against him in the Vegas murder...is there a chance he will get all or any of those? i mean to him he may be thinking if i can do that i can get back to getting paid but for us there is a chance we could get our return man back as of week 10.

that is one problem we are yet to adress, with Pacman and Bobby Wade both out is it realistic to think that we will spend a high draft pick, maybe our third pick, on a return man/RB, WR, CB etc...?

Re: Pacman Jones suspended

i think the suspensions should have been switched. Henry is the guy carrying around guns and boozing up underage kids. 8 games without pay would have been enough for Pac, who really hasnt been found guilty of anything

Re: Pacman Jones suspended

i would have to slightly disagree with you there oakley, i dont think that Pacmans suspension was to harsh becuase he was arrested 10 times and may have played a major role in a murder and before this the NFL did not get involved so i lighter punishment would have caused up roar in the NFL and would show players that you can act as badly as him and only get an 8 game suspenison with the possibility of playing in per season and attending training camp which Henry might be able to do.

what i would have done is given them the same sort of suspension e.g. season long ones with all the possiblities of coming back early for 'good behaviour' becuase i think that Henry's actions are pretty bad as well
