New GM likely to be on Fishers? wavelength
Nashville City Paper, TN - 5 hours ago
The departure of general manager Floyd Reese leaves a major void in the Tennessee Titans organization.

And while the Titans search for a GM for the first time in 13 years, one statement from COO Steve Underwood certainly raises eyebrows.

“We’re going to hire a new general manager who will have the same duties and responsibilities that our former general manager had,” Underwood said in pointing out that head coach Jeff Fisher would not be taking on more roles. “Floyd had plenary control over personnel decisions; our new general manager will subject only to myself and Mr. Adams.”

Fisher won’t be pulling double duty, but thoughts that he won’t eventually have more power throughout the organization would appear premature and overstated.

After all, Fisher is the winner in the underlying power struggle with Reese that had brewing for years behind the scenes.

And now as the longest tenured coach in the NFL with one franchise, what with Bill Cowher’s departure in Pittsburgh last week, Fisher has earned his share of respect both within the Titans organization and throughout the NFL.

Post Titans: Fisher will not take on general manager duties (AP)

The Tennessee Titans have no timetable for hiring a new general manager. They want someone who knows what he's doing. And no, coach Jeff Fisher has not asked for more control than he already has in negotiations for his own contract extension. "You have my word on it," chief operating officer Steve Underwood said.

McKenzie to interview for Titans' GM job
PackersNews.com, WI - 1 hour ago
The Tennessee Titans on Wednesday were granted permission by the Green Bay Packers to interview Reggie McKenzie for their job opening at general manager.

It's unclear when McKenzie, the Packers' director of pro personnel, will interview with the Titans, though presumably it will be soon. The Titans called the Packers on Wednesday to ask to talk with McKenzie.

The Titans are looking to replace longtime GM Floyd Reese, who resigned this offseason after failing to get a contract extension after his 13th season as the Titans' executive vice president and general manager.

Titans interested in Jags? Bailey
Nashville City Paper, TN - 5 hours ago

Charles Bailey appears to be the first candidate the Tennessee Titans will entertain for their general manager’s position.

According to a source, the Titans have some interest in Bailey, and according to report, the Titans have sought permission from the Jacksonville Jaguars to interview him. Bailey is currently the Jags director of pro personnel.
The Titans have been searching for a replacement for long-time GM Floyd Reese, who resigned after 13 seasons just over two weeks ago.

Bailey has been with the Jaguars since 2003. Prior to that, he worked as a scout and talent evaluator with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints, where he served as assistant general manager.

Ashland City Times, TN - 12 hours ago
The Tennessee Titans have been granted permission to interview Miami General Manager Randy Mueller, according to a league source.

The franchise has now received the needed approval to talk with the five candidates they have identified with other clubs: Mueller, Jacksonville director of pro personnel Charles Bailey, Green Bay director of pro personnel Reggie McKenzie, Seattle vice president of football administration Mike Reinfelt and Seattle vice president of player personnel Ruston Webster.

Last week, the Titans interviewed Ron Hill, the NFL’s vice president of football operations who’s previously worked for Atlanta, Jacksonville and Denver.

The team is also expected to speak to two in-house candidates, director of player personnel Rich Snead and director of college scouting Mike Ackerley.

Owner: Titans closing in on new GM
SI.com - 10 hours ago
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Titans plan to wrap up interviews for a new general manager by the end of this week and should have one in place next week, owner Bud Adams said Tuesday.

"We hope to have all the interviews done by the end of this week. You're going to be very happy," Adams said on WGFX-FM.

"We need to get the general manager on board."

The Titans must replace Floyd Reese, who resigned on Jan. 5 as the franchise's winningest general manager. Team officials have declined to verify any names mentioned for the vacancy.

Ex-Falcon official makes impression on Titans
Nashville City Paper, TN - Jan 21, 2007
The Tennessee Titans began the interview process Friday when former Atlanta Falcons vice president of player personnel Ron Hill spent a good part of the day in Nashville.

Indications are that Hill, who has been in the NFL office since being fired in 2005 by the Falcons, apparently has made a favorable enough impression to establish himself as a credible candidate to replace Floyd Reese, who resigned on Jan. 5.

That by no means would indicate that the search is over, however. It is actually just beginning, as Green Bay Packers director of pro personnel Reggie McKenzie could be next on the list to interview for the vacancy.

There are three other outside candidates who should be interviewed shortly as well, including two potentially strong candidates from the Seattle Seahawks — Mike Reinfeldt and Ruston Webster. The Titans have also received permission to interview Jacksonville Jaguars director of pro personnel Charles Bailey. However, Miami Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller may have had his candidacy derailed as the Dolphins have yet to give him permission to interview.

Seahawks exec to Titans?
TheNewsTribune.com (subscription), WA - 2 hours ago
Seattle Seahawks executive Mike Reinfeldt spent Wednesday interviewing with the Tennessee Titans for a position as general manager.

Reinfeldt, 53, was an All-Pro safety and AFC defensive player of the year for the Houston Oilers before owner Bud Adams moved the franchise to Tennessee. Adams is looking for a GM to succeed Floyd Reese, who resigned this month.

Reinfeldt is entering his third season as the Seahawks’ vice president of football administration. He was a senior vice president with the team from January 1999 until February 2004, when he left the organization for one year amid front-office tumult.

Re: Seahawks exec to Titans?

Lots of rumors, very little concrete idea as to who the new GM will actually be. Which of the guys interviewed would you want, Titans fans?

Titans ready for next step; Reinfeldt the front-runner?
Nashville City Paper, TN - 5 hours ago
After Charles Bailey completes his interview today at Baptist Sports Park, the next step for the Tennessee Titans in their search for a general manager will be to pare the list of candidates down to the finalists before determining who to offer the position to.

Miami Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller has not yet interviewed, and though he is on the list of eight candidates, it appears both the Titans and Mueller may be backing away from each other in the process and that Mueller will not interview at all. Mueller has one year remaining on his contract with the Dolphins and is said to be seeking an extension to stay there.

According to a league source, the front-runner after the interview process thus far is Seattle Seahawks vice president/football administration Mike Reinfeldt. There appears to be a scenario where the Titans could offer the position to Reinfeldt this week.

Titans: Search for GM near end
Jackson Sun, TN - 30 minutes ago
NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Titans wrapped up interviews Monday in their search for a new general manager and a decision by owner Bud Adams should be coming within a few days.

"We as an organization will take the next couple of days to consider the information we have gathered and possibly conduct further interviews with some of the candidates," chief operating officer Steve Underwood said in a statement Monday night.

"Following these discussions, Mr. Adams will make a final decision on our next general manager."

Adams said last week he hoped to have his new general manager "put to bed" by the start of this week to replace Floyd Reese, who resigned on Jan. 5 a month before his contract expired. He was the franchise's longest-serving general manager and had a record of 111-102.

Dolphins General Manager Randy Mueller is expected to stay in the same position with the franchise - at least for now.

The Tennessean reported today that Mueller is not one of three finalists for the Tennessee Titans' vacant general manager position. Jacksonville's Charles Bailey, and Seattle's Mike Reinfeldt and Ruston Webster are expected to meet with Titans owner Bud Adams for a second round of interviews, the report said.

Reinfeldt still alive, McKenzie out for Titans' GM job
PackersNews.com, WI - 1 hour ago
Former Green Bay Packers executive Mike Reinfeldt is a leading candidate for the Tennessee Titans' general manager job, but the Packers' current director of pro personnel, Reggie McKenzie, no longer is in the running, said sources familiar with the Titans' search.

Reinfeldt, who was a high-ranking front-office executive with the Packers from 1991 to 1998, was invited back for a second interview with Titans owner Bud Adams this week. Reinfeldt, who currently is the Seattle Seahawks' vice president/football administration, has a strong and long relationship with Adams and the organization, dating to when Reinfeldt was a starting safety for eight seasons (1976 to 1983) when the team was the Houston Oilers.
