Re: Titans GM Floyd Reese resigns

"I had hopes of signing a contract extension and staying with the Titans for many more years, but it became apparent to me over the last several months that that would be difficult," Reese is quoted as saying in an AP article today. "Rather than drag out a process that would probably end up with us going our separate ways, the right thing to do is to cut ties now and let the Titans move on and me as well." Will the Titans be better or worse off without Reese? And who replaces him?

Well, this move has an impact on the NFL Draft. Reese is notorious for gambling on high risk - high reward type players.

If I recall correctly, Jeff Fisher wanted Antrel Rolle and Matt Leinart the past two years. In the end, Floyd Reese drafted Pacman Jones and Vince Young. Should make for an interesting draft.

Jeff Fisher won't be doing the Wildcard Game on NBC now as he had to fly back to Tennessee and work on what they're doing now. Is he going be the GM/Coach now?

Young, at least, worked out for them in the end, though. I remember just a few days ago reading a story that talked about how the Titans were making so much progress due to smart drafting. And now the guy primarily responsible for those drafts is gone, all but forced out the door? Seems a little odd, don't you think?

Re: Titans GM Floyd Reese resigns

i think looking at the way it happened its a little unusual because the guy has been part of the franchise for 21 years or so and been through the highs and lows with the team, and yet his whole attitude towards it was "well i didnt wanna drag out the contract negotiations so ill just leave on my own" it seems a little strange about how he found it easy to up and leave so quickly, but then again there is the case for whether he wanted to leave or was told to leave so didnt wanna go through all the problems in the next few months. but i was thinking that maybe they 'pushed' Reese out to give Fisher some sort of insentive to stay on and possible take over some GM powers as well as being head coach??

in terms of the draft had this happened 2 or 3 years ago when we had lost most of our good players to salary cap problems then i would be worried, but i believe that all we need right now is a back up QB, a WR or 2 and some tall DB's and we should be set for the next few season becasue good drafting over the past 2 years had given us a team for the future, but i guess we'll just have to see how it goes

VY definitely seems to be a great deal. Pacman is still high risk high reward every day.

I don't think so. We'll see somebody in that spot but Jeff will probably have more power than in a Fisher vs Reese disagreement.

I'd lean in this direction. There's been some grumblings about fire floyd reese over the last year or so. My guess is he saw the writing on the wall.

definitely gotta get VY some more help. But I think you're right. VY looks like he is the key to building a winning team in Nashville.

The NY DailyNews says the Titans have interest in Giants Director of Player Personnel Jerry Reese.
