Titans vs. Patriots

Week 17 and the Tennessee Titans are still alive for the playoffs. That's the good news. The bad news is that to make the postseason, they need to beat the AFC East champion New England Patriots AND hope the Steelers either beat or tie Cincinnati AND root for the 49ers to beat the Broncos AND hope the Chiefs can beat Jacksonville.

Can the Titans beat the Patriots? Will they make the playoffs?

Re: Titans vs. Patriots

Wouldn't they also need the Jets to lose to Oakland?

Anyway, will the Patriots even be playing their starters? If the Titans can end their season on a 7-game win streak...that's just amazing.

Doesn't look like it. According to NFL.com:

Quote:
Tennessee clinches a playoff berth with:
1) TEN win + CIN loss or tie + DEN loss + KC win

They also can think of what might have been if not for a pass deflected in the end zone of the season-opening 23-16 loss to the New York Jets; a penalty that erased a punt return for a touchdown in a 13-10 loss at Miami; and the 14-13 loss at Indianapolis.
"We have no one to blame but ourselves," linebacker Peter Sirmon.

Post Patriots 40, Titans 23 (AP)

Bill Belichick told Vinny Testaverde to get loose. The 43-year-old quarterback wasn't sure, so he asked the New England coach again. "He said, `Get loose.' I assumed that was to go in and throw the football. I threw a couple passes before I went in," Testaverde said. Testaverde capped the Patriots' roll into the playoffs by throwing a touchdown for an NFL-record 20th season.

Re: Titans vs. Patriots

I guess Tennessee had a problem with Vinny getting that TD pass when game was decided. I didn't though. At least he had to earn it, unlike Strahan with the sack record a few years back.

Re: Titans vs. Patriots

the thing i find funny about the Testeverdy situation was that when i checked the inactives before the game, he was down as inactive, so how could he have come in and thrown passes if he was inactive? but with regards to the whole game i think it was damn selfish of the Pats to play the way they did, they just wanted to move one place up in the playoffs and played like they were trying to survive death, i once had a lot of respect for the pats and the players and coaches but after the way they played yesterday i dont regard them as a team anymore, it was a total disgrace the way they played

I, on the other hand, loved it. New England wanted to go into the playoffs with momentum, and they were going to make the Titans earn their way into the postseason. In the NFL, you never let up on the throttle, not for one second. It's a shame the Titans were left out, but it's just like that classic Herm Edwards quote: "You play to win the game." Too many teams have blown their playoffs by coasting in their last one or two games, and Belichick wanted to make sure that didn't happen to his team.

the Titans lost to the Pats by 17

they lost to San Diego by 33........Dallas by 31.........and Jacksonville by 30

and you seem to want to blame the Pats for not stepping aside and playing their cheerleaders

how about blaming your defense for not showing up ?

Re: Titans vs. Patriots

see now once again people have neglected to read about the fact i HAVE said that our defense and whole team in general played poorly because they did, i mean we couldnt stop a half speed Dillion or 134 year old QB, im not excusing our defense or offense for one second

Re: Titans vs. Patriots

chill out people
its just football
besides which, titans season was over back in week 3-4
titans will be back, to own their opponents in 2007, be sure of it.

one thing im hoping on, is maybe they get rid of lamont thompson!!!
if u watch tape like i do, you can clearly see where most of the passing yards that the titans give up, comes from lamont thompson getting burned in the secondary.
i dunno what else we need,
our O-line kicks ass!....
anyways, from things i am reading, fisher says they will work on the defense more than they will the offense, during the off-season.
i just hope he knows that lamont thompson is a major problem.

Re: Titans vs. Patriots

i think the problem we have with regards to the safeties is that Hope is a pass covering safety who can come up to the line and pick off the ball and tips passes, Thompson however is more of a run stopped who just acts as the last line of defense but i think the problem is that Thompson is the tallest player in the secondary, how embarrasing , but he is being relied on to make all the stops in the air as well as track the big recievers, i dont think thompson has done much for us to cut him but we definatyl need some height in the defensive backfield
