Titans Salary Cap Problem is McNair

Some more details on the TN Titians contract with Steve McNair and the TN Titans salary cap.

It's not an entirely done deal. McNairs agent, Bus Cook, says that the Titans could cut McNair anytime. The 2 main factors at play are:
When will Steve McNair retire?
McNair's big hit on the Titans Salary Cap

McNair has said he wants to be in a Titans jersey this year. Coach Fisher says that Steve MCNair may have 2-3 years left as long as he stays committed during the offseasons and McNair doens't get hampered with another major injury.

The TN Titans salary cap issue is a big deal. McNair is going to count $23.46 million against the Tennessee Titanss salary cap. That's about a quarter of the $94.5 million per team NFL salary cap. Makes it kinda hard to get the other players you need when one guy near the end of his career is taking up so much salary cap.

I bet Steve McNair retires after 1 more year as a Titan.

Rmj,

That is a huge piece and it hardly seems justified because the Titans aren't going to win with McNair anyway. I like McNair but the Titans need to rebuild.

They should've dumped McNair, played Volek, and drafted a QB for the future. This is the perfect time for the franchise to start rebuilding, and by golly, they should take advantage of it.
