NEW YORK -- Christmas time. My thoughts turn to Mike McGuire, and so I phone him. "I saw the Ravens this week,''...

Re: NFL Weekly Awards

The Awards Section
Offensive Players of the Week
Marc Bulger, QB, St. Louis. Is it possible for a Pro Bowl quarterback to be underrated? If so, Bulger is. He was clutch and productive against Washington, completing 25 of 38 for 388 yards, with four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Tom Brady, QB, New England. Boy, is he going to be sore this morning. And for several mornings after. If I were Bill Belichick, I might think of sitting him Sunday at Tennessee in basically a meaningless game after seeing the tremendous shots he took in the 24-21 win over the Jags, which ensured the Patriots' fifth AFC East title in the last six seasons. The shot from Clint Ingram in the right shoulder while he dove for a first down in the fourth quarter was a killer. For the game, he was 28 of 39 for 249 yards, with one touchdown and no picks.
Defensive Players of the Week
Antoine Winfield, CB, Minnesota. He put on a clinic at Green Bay, on defense and special teams. He played a clinging cover cornerback against Donald Driver and Greg Jennings; Brett Favre directed 23 passes at those two receivers, and they caught 10, for 101 yards and no scores. Winfield had eight tackles, four pass deflections, a crucial fumble recovery at the Minnesota one with the Packers trying to go in for the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter. On the kickoff following Minnesota's lone score of the game to take a 7-6 lead, Winfield leveled returner Vernand Morency with a sleep-inducing, fit-for-Jacked-Up open-field tackle.
Special Teams Players of the Week
Matt Cassel, QB/Holder, New England. In his two NFL seasons, Cassel had never before held for a placekick. But in the second quarter of a scoreless game, Cassel trotted on the field. He took a wide snap from center Lonie Paxton, gathered it in neatly while Stephen Gostkowski ran to kick it, and he barely got it down in time, cleanly, before Gostkowski swung his leg through and made a 48-yard field goal.
Coach.

Bulger had a quiet year in St. Louis...still he has a hell of a back in Jackson and Holt at receiver is no slouch...I don't think he is that underrated.

Re: NFL Weekly Awards

Bulger isn't as good as people think he is. (and that's from a Rams supporter)

The Rams can't play well, even though they have some of the best players in the league.

Steve Jackson is an amazing RB, and can definitely outnumber Faulk's best years.

Torry Holt may be the equivalent of Marvin Harrison, and you can never forget Isaac Bruce.

At their best, they are evens up...Faulk had some fantastic years with over 2,000 yards from scrimmage...and is Hall of Fame bound.
