Why are Titans winless?

How could a team that had the best record last year be winless this year with essentially the same players? They have returned 11 starters from last year.
Last year Kerry Collins had 7 interceptions. In 2009, he already has the same number of interceptions.
The Titans are lacking a game breaking wide receiver. But it could be argued Jeff Fisher has never had one, just possession receivers.
The biggest hurt seems to be the defense. Perhaps the absence of Albert Haynesworth accounts for that.
Maybe they are still trying to adjust to new defensive coordinator Chuck Ceil. Ceil is not much for blitzing with the 4 man rush scheme.
Was the 10-0 start last year a fluke for this team with an 0-5 start this year?

They are winless because they messed with the Steelers Terrible Towel last season. They have not won a game since that stunt. Do not mess with that towel.

This was shown on the internet for Nashville local tv station just moments ago:

AP) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee owner Bud Adams said he isn't making a coaching change despite the franchise's worst loss ever.
Adams promoted Jeff Fisher to head coach after a 1-9 start in 1994. The 87-year-old told a local newspaper after Sunday's 59-0 loss to New England he'd look "pretty hard" at a change if the Titans lose every game or don't look better.
Adams said even if he is unhappy, "you don't make changes in the middle of the season. You don't know what you might end up with." Adams said he'll "have to make my decision after the season is up."
The owner said he can't understand the 0-6 start after the Titans went an NFL-best 13-3 in 2008. Adams also wants more Vince Young than Kerry Collins, but said Fisher is making those decisions.

This part of the reason Titans are having a winless season, and looks like the last half of the season will be no better!

Re: Why are Titans winless?

Jeff Fisher has lost his team. I am not saying he cant coach anymore. But, in 16 seasons as coach he has only 6 winning seasons with no Superbowl wins. Coaches that have won Superbowls have been fired what makes this guy so special . Production winning a Superbowl is what he is paid to do at what point does he carry the blame.

I think after a coach is with a team so long, things go flat. Its time for Fisher to go perhaps, and most certainly for Young to start.

I do hope that eventually, Bud Adams will do the right thing.

Re: Why are Titans winless?

I think Jeff Fisher has lost the team as well...his unwillingness to shake things up is likely frustrating for the team who is in dire need of some sort of a spark. I mean titans did play some good teams in Pittsburgh, Indy and Patriots....a really good Patriots team apparently lol...I thought at the start of the season that I would've been happy if they came into the bye week at 3-3 or even 2-4...haha I never would've guessed things would've fallen apart so quickly for them after they had a promising start against Pittsburgh, only losing by three points in which your kicker missed FGs I felt pretty good about where they were from that standpoint, but then it just got worse and worse. They've got a stretch of games that they can win coming up and I think Young needs to be starting in those games...I mean if he's supposed to be 'learning' from Kerry Collins, there doesn't appear to be much that he can learn at this point, or that I would want him to be learning from Collins at this point lol.

I saw on the news last night a fund raiser that Jeff Fisher was a speaker at. He sure was in a good mood. He proceeded to remove his jacket - stating that it was terribly hot in the building. He turned his back to the audience and proceeded to remove his shirt - revealing a Peyton Manning Jersey that he was wearing.

He grinned real big and said I just wanted to feel like a winner. What a slap to the Titan team and Titan fans.

I have always liked Fisher, but I truly believe it is time for him to go.

Re: Why are Titans winless?

Because They Didn't Learn From The Cincinnati Bungles, When T.J. Housh (whatever) Wiped His Cleets With The Terrible Towel A Couple Seasons Ago, What Happened To Them? They Lost! And... They Lost Palmer For A Season! So... Titans Beat Steelers Last Season, And White Stomps The Towel, They Think Their Going To The Superbowl, But As The "Cope Curse" Goes, They Lose To The Ravens In The First Game Of Playoffs, And...... ha ha Have Not Won Since! Don't Mess With Our Terrible Towel, That Is Why It Is Called "Terrible" Now I Just Seen A Local News Segment With Jeff Fischer At A Charity Dinner With Former Steeler Tony Dungy, And He Was Pleading With The Rooney Family To "Reverse This Curse, My Team Hasn't Won A Game Since". The Terrible Towel Can Bring You Pain, We Love You Myron Cope!

Is The Curse of the Terrible Towel Still Haunting the Tennessee Titans?
by Nick Signorelli Nick SignorelliColumnist

What is the reason for the Titans losing streak?
Terrible Towel stomp Coaching Ownership Kerry Collins LenDale White vote to see results Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008. The Tennessee Titans were hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers, with the winner of the game having the inside track to the best record in the AFC, and home field advantage through out the playoffs.
The Titans entered the game hungrier than the Steelers, and abused them to the tune of 31-14. Not only winning the game, but securing the rights to be called the best team in the AFC, and becoming the favorites to play in Super Bowl XLIII.
Toward the end of the game, with the outcome certain, some Titans players decided to make things personal with the Steelers and their fans.
By stomping the beloved Terrible Towel, the Titans signified they were not afraid of the Steelers, or any curse that may come along with the Towel.
See, Steelers fans have seen this before. In 1995, the San Diego Chargers defeated the Steelers in the AFC Championship game. At the end of the game, the Chargers won the right to go to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history.
At the end of the game, several Chargers players were waving Terrible Towels, stomping on them, and being disrespectful.
So what, you ask?
The Chargers went on to one of the worst beatings in Super Bowl history, losing to the San Francisco 49ers, 49-26.
Coincidence you say?
Dec. 4, 2005. The Cincinnati Bengals visited Heinz Field to play the Steelers, with the AFC North title on the line. In a high scoring game, the Bengals defeated the Steelers 38-31.
At the end of the game, T.J. Houshmandzadeh took a Terrible Towel, shined his dirty cleats with it, and threw it on the ground.
Cincinnati did win the division, and in their first playoff game in almost 20 years, hosted those same Pittsburgh Steelers.
On the Bengals first drive, Carson Palmer was lost for the game, tearing his ACL when Kimo Von Olhoffen rolled up on his knee.
The Bengals unraveled, with rumors of a fight between Chad Johnson and a member of the coaching staff (where there were supposedly punches thrown) at half time.
That is the same year the Steelers would go on to win their fifth Lombardi Trophy.
Still think it is coincidence?
When the Arizona Cardinals were preparing to depart for Super Bowl XLIII, the city had a pep rally for the team at the airport.
Even though no member of the team, or coaching staff did anything disrespectful, the Mayor of Arizona acted as if he were blowing his nose on the Terrible Towel, even after coach Ken Whisenhunt asked him not to.
The result, again, was a defeat to the disrespectful team.
Prior to stomping the Terrible Towel, the Titans were 13-2.
Since the Titans players, namely LenDale White, Javon Kearse and Keith Bulluck, were disrespectful to the Terrible Towel, here is how the Titans have done.
Week 17, 2008 - Indianapolis 23 / Tennessee 0
Divisional playoffs 2008 - Baltimore 13 / Tennessee 10
Week 1, 2009 - Pittsburgh 13 / Tennessee 10
Week 2, 2009 - Houston 34 / Tennessee 31
Week 3, 3009 - New York Jets 24 / Tennessee 21
Week 4, 2009 - Jacksonville 37 / Tennessee 17
The fact is, since the Terrible Towel stomp, the Titans have not been able to win a game, losing six straight.
Is this coincidence, or are they suffering the same fate as the other teams before them? Your guess is as good as mine, but unless something happens against the Colts Sunday, Tennessee will again be knocked out of the playoffs.

He apologized for that-
"It was for a very, very worthwhile cause, charity," Fisher said. "I was introducing Tony, just having fun with it and I really apologize if I offended anybody, but if you're offended over the nature of that type of thing, then I think you need to rethink things.
"This is a very worthwhile and needy benefit and I was honored to be there. ... I'm sorry if I offended anybody but if I had to do it again, I would do it again."

Re: Why are Titans winless?

LMAO!! The terrible towel is one huge joke here!! If you bring it and wave it in our faces, we'll stomp it again. It means nada to us and PALEEZE!! If you're head is so stuck so far underneath that rock OR you really believe in those dreams you've been dreaming then, you're obviously living in your own dream by thinking that childish (on both parts) incident is actually the reason the Titans are winless thus far, then you need to wake up and face reality.

I do think however that coach has lost his locker room. JMO
