| Re: Tennessee Titans also release Jerrett Payton, son of late Walter NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Titans released running back Jarrett Payton, son of the late Walter Payton, Saturday after choosing to keep Chris Brown, Travis Henry and rookie LenDale White on the roster.
The 6-foot, 220-pound Payton was among 22 players released. The Titans didn't immediately release his name and that of linebacker Cody Spencer because they hadn't been able to contact the players.
Payton went undrafted out of Miami in 2004 but signed as a free agent with the Titans. He stayed on the practice squad until being signed to the active roster Sept. 30 and making his pro debut on Oct. 2, in a loss to Indianapolis to fill a slot left by Henry's four-game suspension.
He played 13 games and rushed for 105 yards on 33 carries while wearing No. 33, a digit short of the 34 his father wore during his Hall of Fame career with the Chicago Bears. This is disappointing...Payton's kid didn't make it...certainly 3 yards a carry doesn't help the cause...but this kid looked good as a Hurrican...will we see him bounce back, or is this the end of the road? |
